Oral History, Bendigo Nurses... in Elmore 8495.75k Peter Rosewall Mixed media Oral History, Bendigo ...The Northern District School of Nursing opened in 1950 in to address the issues around nurse recruitment, training and education that had previously been hospital based. The residential school was to provide theoretical and in-house education and practical training over three years. The students would also receive practical hands-on training in the wards of associated hospitals. The Northern District School of Nursing operated from Lister House, Rowan Street, Bendigo. It was the first independent school of nursing in Victoria and continued until it closed in 1989.CD entitled "A Cure for All Ills: Medicine in Bendigo 7 Feb - 10th August 2014". The CD contains eleven recordings of nurses who trained in Bendigo relating their experiences. Pat White was involved in the Oral History project at Burke Museum and was tasked with transcribing the recordings of elderly Beechworth residents recalling their early days in the town. Estimated date of photo is 2000.This photograph is of social significance because it depicts a local Burke Museum volunteer, Pat White, who had a connection to the Beechworth area. The Cottages were Dolly's home for the next seventy-five years. Dolly was unable to read or write but she like to talk. In her old age she co-operated in the making of a series of tape recordings about her life. Kew Cottages: The World of Dolly Stainer is based on these recordings and places them in the context of the wider Cottages' history.This is a rare record of a resident of Kew Cottages, recorded in 1987, captured in an oral history interview.Oral History record.
