Ephemera - MISS G ALICE JONES COLLECTION: WWII FUEL 2 GALLON RATION TICKETS
Petrol rationing was gazetted in May 1941. Australia's lack of fuel storage options and the diversion of tankers bringing fuel here forced the government to begin rationing. Initially it was proposed that consumption should be reduced by 50% but this was modified to 1/3 reduction. People had to apply for a petrol licence and this was then used to obtain ration coupons. Initially coupons were issued on a 6 monthly basis but this was reduced to 2 monthly and allowed people roughly 2000 gallons per year. Coupons allowed for 1, 2, 5, 10, 44 and 100 gallon amounts depending on need. eg. private, commercial, farm use. Rationing was strictly enforced until 1942 but remained in effect until 1950.WWII Fuel 2 Gallon Ration Tickets: 2 x rectangular shape with perforated edges, cream card with brown print. Background is a wall paper of oval shapes with "Motor Spirit Ration" printed. On the face is "Commonwealth Liquid Fuel Control Board, the Commonwealth Emblem Motor Spirit two 2 Gals, Not Transferable Ration Ticket". Department of supply & Development. Issued under national security Act. 1939-40 The back has sticky tape stuck to it. -

Souvenir - Souvenir flag Spirit of Tasmania, 23 Oct 2022
The red souvenir flag with the Spirit of Tasmania name and TT Line logo was made to commemorate the Bass Strait ferry's last sailing from Melbourne. In July 1985, the Spirit of Tasmania 1 made her first voyage to Melbourne and from that date ferried passengers, vehicles and cargo to and from Devonport, Tasmania. Many passenger ferries have been employed in the Bass Strait passenger service since the 1840's. Ships using preceding the Spirt of Tasmania include the Taroona, Princess of Tasmania and the Abel Tasman. The flag was one of many distributed to the crowds gathered on the foreshore to farewell the ship. With her sister ship, Spirit of Tasmania 2, the red and white ferries had been a familiar sight at Station Pier, Port Melbourne for more than three decades.piers and wharves - station pier, spirit of tasmania, tt-line -

Label, Bilson & Co, Early 20th century
Bilson and Co. operated a general store in Murray Street, Colac with its history dating from 1884 to 1955. Originally founded by the Tulloh family it became known as Bilsons after 1889 when Franklin Bilson came from Allansford where he had operated a general store. Bilsons store became one of the largest stores in country Victoria. In 1952 Bilsons merged with Foy and Gibsons. and in 1955 the Foy Bilson business was sold. This label is of interest firstly because it is a memento of Bilson's stores an important 20th century business in country Victoria and secondly because Franklin Bilson and his wife, Fanny, both have their place in Warrnambool's history.Rectangular white label with dark blue text and some scroll decoration.
