A newspaper article that mentions the release of WB Russell's book about Stan Savige 'There goes a man' in 1959. It was attached a letter from Gerta Gillies to Legatee Aaron Bettie about the publication of the biography of Stan Savige. Mrs Gillies was the first instructor for girls classes. Legatee Aaron Beattie helped organise many of the early demonstrations. The letter says Mrs Gillies was thrilled to receive a copy of the book. She says: 'How can I convey in words how deeply touched I am at your gift of the book! What wonderful memories it calls up of the Great Man, General Savige. In August 1999, East Timor voted for independence from Indonesia. Violent clashes broke out immediately between rival factions. Many civilians were killed. A programme for the State Memorial Service held on 10 November 2023 for Ron Barassi at the MCG. It lists the order of service and some facts on Ron's life. Australian football legend, former ‘Legacy Boy’ and Ambassador, Ronald Dale Barassi, AM passed away at the age of 87 on 6 September.  Ron was forever grateful for Legacy’s support to him and his mother Elza. Throughout his life, as a Legacy Ambassador, Ron generously used his well-respected status and networks to promote the important work of Legacy.   Ron came into Legacy’s care as a child when his father Ronald James Barassi was killed in action at Tobruk in 1941. Ron’s father was the first VFL footballer killed in World War II. Only 5 years old at the time, Ron later rose to be a star footballer for the Melbourne Football club like his father. Legacy assisted with his education and health expenses and supported him in attending youth camps and other recreational activities.   A State Memorial Service for Ron was held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on November 10. Staff from Legacy assisted at the service by handing out programmes and encouraging attendees to sign condolence books which have since been presented to the Barassi family.  Legacy was honoured by the Barassi family’s request, in lieu of flowers, that members of the public make a donation to Legacy to assist families of veterans in need, a cause very dear to Ron’s heart. The 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles was raised as a regiment of the Royal Australian Armoured Corps on 1 May 1948 with Headquarters in Melbourne and squadrons in Sale, Benalla/Wangaratta and Albury. In 1955 Regimental Headquarters moved to Wangaratta and a second squadron was located at Albury. The Sale squadron transferred to 4th/19th Prince of Wales’s Light Horse. In 1977 8/13 VMR Regiment was reduced to an independent squadron A Squadron 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles and in 1991 was linked with 4th/19th Prince of Wales’s Light Horse forming the VMR Squadron of that regiment.Collection of photographs showing early evolution of an armoured regiment of the Citizen Forces as it progressed from WWII equipment and uniforms to post-war equipment and uniforms. A newsletter published by Legacy in this format for many years from 1942. The Kergunyah Football Club was established in 1923. They competed in several leagues including the Allans Flat District Football Association, the Yackandandah Football Association, the Dederang and District Football Association and the Tallangatta and District Football League. They won Tallangatta and District Football League premierships in 1955, 1956, 1957. Kergunyah Football Club went into recess in 1940. In 1945 the club joined the Yackandandah League, then in 1953 they were accepted into the Tallangatta and District Football League. The club closed in 1975 due to dwindling numbers but many of its remaining players become the Wodonga Demons. In 1989 Wodonga Demons were successful in their bid to be admitted to the Ovens and Murray League. Following the decision to allow the Wodonga Demons permission to join the Ovens and Murray Football League, the Wodonga Demons Football and Sports Club went about re-establishing their new identity. They had to change both their name and colours so as to not cause confusion with the Benalla Demons.
