Copy of Rose Series Postcard number 3762Copy of Rose Series Postcard #3762 showing Bella Vista Guest House at Olinda. This image is c1940s and shows the tennis court in the foreground. Bella Vista was built by Edmund Boulter in 1903. It comprised two large buildings with a walkway linking the balconies at second storey level. Views of Westernport and Port Phillip Bays could be seen from the rooftop lookout. Bella Vista was reputed to accommodate eighty guests. Single page typescript composed by Jill A'Vard, and single page with four copies of photographs. -Micawber Park Picnic Ground Belgrave c. 1934 shows a forest scene, a creek with a large tree fallen across it, a wooden footbridge, and a man in a hat standing on the bridge. Black and white photo. -Micawber Tea Rooms Belgrave shows a group of two men and two women standing on the verandah of a building which bears the signs "Refreshments", "Hot water" and "Micawber Tea Rooms". Black and white photo. -Ted & Lil A'Vard sitting in their lounge room at Micawber Park c. 1935 shows a middle-aged couple in armchairs in front of a brick fireplace. The mantelpiece holds several items including a clock. Behind the woman, on the right side, is a wooden stand with a green vase holding an arrangement of autumn-coloured flowers and foliage. The man is holding a book and there is possibly a dark dog at the woman's feet. B&W postcard sent to Jean Hermon's mother, Jane Beazley. It shows two men standing on a railway jigger and a third man in front of them, seated on a small three-wheeled vehicle on the track. All are dressed in hats, waistcoat, trousers and shirts. The railway line passes through thick bush. 'Narrow Gauge Rly. Gembrook' is printed at the bottom right corner. The original postcard has three patches where the surface is missing. -

In 1938, the SEC Ballarat decoarated a tram with paper flowers for the Floral Festival. Has four ladies dressed in matching clothes standing inside the tram and four inside the doorways. Photographed in Wendouree Parade with Lake Wendouree in the background. The story is that it rained on the day and the ink in the dresses ran. See Reg Item 5188 for a coloured postcard of the ladies standing outside the tram. Yields information about a tram decorated for the 1939 floral festival colour scheme and has a strong association with the people involved in it. Demonstrates the colours used.Framed photograph of the 1939 Floral Tram, No. 29, photographed in Wendouree Parade, rendered, hand painted, in colour. March 1939. Frame - wooden, light brown frame, glazed, with a cut cardboard piece framing the photograph and most of the damage around the print. Photograph Postcard and Black & White Photograph/s ....1 Postcard size Souvenir Tram ticket, printed using blue ink on one side with fare, photos of power station, engine room, boiler room and a tram & No. 1887 stamped on edge. On reverse side is space for stamp, address etc., - with line & "postcard' etc., printed in red ink. Letter/note to Miss A Coote of St Kilda, stamped in Ballarat on 22-8-1905. Fares given on card are : Mount Pleasant and Orphanage and Grenville St. 3d, or Grenville St. and Tram sheds 3d. Printed in a blue/grey ink of various shades onto a white card. Acted as a souvenir card. The letter writer notes the opening of the tramway and having a glorious holiday. One Penny stamp, with Ballarat Cancellation stamp and - "5" stamped on the top of the postage stamp. The photo is of Sturt St showing Town Hall Ballarat Vic, looking east towards Grenville St from Doveton St. An ESCo tram is in the far distance. In the view are Stansfield and Smith, Snows, and the Bucks Head Hotel. On the left can be seen Shoppee's Square marketplace tents. Photo is very similar in location to item 7364, a later version of this Rose Series photo with the same number 1712. Would appear that Lydiard St north has either been watered or is being repaired. On the rear is a message to friends of a lady keeping house on a farm (Coolaban) near Lubeck Vic. Photograph - looking from Summerscales offices onto the intersection of Sturt and Lydiard St during an event, with a parked ESCo tram and crowds or onlookers on either side of the south side of Sturt St. Has a detailed image of the tram. C1909. In the background are Craigs Hotel, C. Marks & Co, National Mutual building, Snows, and the Town Hall. Several horse-drawn vehicles are in the photograph. Also, A. E. Casley Chemists and Beath Schiess & Co, though this seems to be almost printed into the photograph - above the chemist shop. The postcard has been sent to Miss N Sproston of Skeleton Cottage, Avoca. Has a 1d Victoria stamp and has been postmarked 14-5-1908.
