Photograph - Former Congregational Church, Walpole Street, Stewart West, 1977
The site of the former Kew Congregational Church was the earliest 'built' place of religion in Kew. An earlier building by Charles Vickers was replaced by a new brick church designed by Albert Purchas. Following the creation of the Uniting Church, the church at 30 Walpole Street was declared redundant and demolished to make way for the Bodalla Nursing Home (itself later demolished).Colour print positive of the former Congregational Church in Walpole Street, Kew. A side on view of the red brick and concrete renders building showing the small steeple and the front entrance."Oldest church in Kew. Taken Oct 1977. Photograph, Students of Xavier Preparatory School, 1960s
This work forms part of the collection assembled by the historian Dorothy Rogers, that was donated to the Kew Historical Society by her son John Rogers in 2015. The manuscripts, photographs, maps, and documents were sourced by her from both family and local collections or produced as references for her print publications. Many were directly used by Rogers in writing ‘Lovely Old Homes of Kew’ (1961) and 'A History of Kew' (1973), or the numerous articles on local history that she produced for suburban newspapers. Most of the photographs in the collection include detailed annotations in her hand. The Rogers Collection provides a comprehensive insight into the working habits of a historian in the 1960s and 1970s. Together it forms the largest privately-donated collection within the archives of the Kew Historical Society. An undated school photograph of the students of Xavier Preparatory School in Nolan Avenue, Kew. The photograph is taken outside the entrance to Burke Hall (earlier named Waverley, then Studley Hall).studley hall, burke hall, xavier preparatory school, dorothy rogers -

The photograph shows the extensions that were built on to the former Shire of Bulla offices in the mid 1980s. The building with the curved wall and glass tiles was where the Shire of Bulla held their council meetings. The Victorian state flag and the Shire of Bulla flags are hoisted on the poles and the bust of George Evans, an early European settler in the district is on the RHS of the image. The extensions completed in the 1980s to the former Shire of Bulla offices were the last major works to be undertaken on the building before Bulla Shire became part of Hume City Council in 1994.A coloured photograph of a brick paved path leading to a cream brick community building with two flags hoisted on flagpoles near the entrance . The bust of a man is visible on the RHS of the image. shire of bulla, council offices, shire of bulla council offices., george evans -
