He opened his timber and saw milling yard in 1882. The factory was able to produce all types of fancy wood products to supply builders within a 100-mile radius of Bendigo. Eventually this yard run through to Dowling (now Queen) Street and a factory was established which supplied the blackwood seats for the new Sacred Heart Cathedral.
