A cartoon drawing done by artist Pat Hanna and sent to friends at Legacy. It looks like a funny caption is missing from the drawing. It was stored with other items including a letter to Frank (possibly L/- Frank Doolan who was making an attempt to collect items relevant to Legacy's history for an official archive project - see items 01400 to 01404). Pat Hanna was an entertainer, comedian, artist and producer of reveues, plays and movies. One of his first revues was performed in France just after the armistice. A popular stage show was 'Diggers' that performed around Australia post-war and adapted into a film in 1931. He was asked to pose for photographer Jack Cato for the iconic image of a digger shown in 01400. He was born George Patrick Hanna, 18 March 1888 in Whitianga, New Zealand and served in the First World War, was a founding member of Melbourne Legacy and was involved with Legacy for many years.Pat Hanna was a founding member of Melbourne Legacy and an artist and producer. The children from Bulla Primary School were taken on an excursion to Werribee Park Mansion. Photos of what appears to be a excursion in the bush with Holmbush children and legatees, possibly in the 1940s. The names of the children and legatees are not known. They appear to be playing basketball on a rudimentary court. Also some of the cars that transported them. Picnic tables can be seen with the cars. From a photo album which contains photos of Holmbush and some of the excursions and events that happened there, appears to have been put together in the 1940s. Including trips to the zoo and picnics. Holmbush at 1267 Burke road, was one of the properties that Legacy used for Junior Legatees. It was purchased 1942. The International House Squash Court was officially opened on July 16, 1969, by the Governor of Victoria, Sir Rohan Delacombe. The court was funded by the Sunshine Foundation and Dame Hilda Stevenson. Squash became popular with students, but the court was eventually demolished in 2002 to make way for the Founders Building. A home sewing needle kit. These paper sleeved novelty needle books were available in the late 19th Century. They were often free as a promotional give-away. In the 1900's they were colourful and fun.A vintage Novelty Needle Book made in Japan with 50 needles mounted inside a pop up card. 'The first panel celebrates the long history of runners that use the park. Richmond Harriers Athletics Club was established in 1913 and is the oldest athletics club in Victoria. The central panel depicts young female footballers and recognises female athletes and the popularity of women and girls' teams in contemporary sports. The final panel depicts a children’s cricket match. The young players are represented through the depiction of a game that is part of our national psyche and firmly entrenched in Australian culture.'Inner-city parks like Citizens Park have many diverse uses. They provide places to play, to exercise and to relax. They are spaces for community and are often subject to competing values and interests. The re-development of the Jack Dyer Pavilion at Citizens Park allows for the growth of the local community’s diverse interests and values and enables participation and interaction. A colour slide of two young men playing billiards in a recreation room at a Legacy residence in the 1960s. It is possibly Blamey House in Burke Road or Harelands in Willesmere Road, Kew. It appears to be the same roll of film as 03023 - which is at Harelands dated early 1960s. Legacy ran residences to take care of children whose fathers were deceased servicemen, and who may have been left orphans, or whose mother may have been unable to care for them herself, or they needed to stay in Melbourne for education.
