Bunguluke Map, Bunguluke District In 1923, 27.2.1923
By 1881 Bunguluke was a small settlement as recorded, December 5, in the Charlton "Mercury". It reports that in that year Draper's Store, Hotel and Post Office and residence at Bunguluke North was totally destroyed by fire. For years now there has been little sign of community life with houses few and far between and acreages have gone into larger holdings. The map references land blocks and owners for that era. This important map shows the local land ownership and local features that existed in 1923. This is a photocopied black and white map of Bunguluke in the County of Kara Kara, Number L5149. Marked - Photo Lithographed by W.J. Butson 27.2.1923. The details include numbers of allotments, property owners, roads, rivers. The boundaries marked are the Parish of Jeruk, Parish of Wycheproof, Parish of Cooroopajerrup. Wycheproof township location is shown with the Scale of Chains. Bunguluke maps for other years are also in the collection.map, bunguluke, jeruk, wycheproof, cooroopajerrup -

Framed photograph, Mrs Elaine Storey, Roll of Honour Towaninnie Methodist Church, 26/10/2008
The Towaninnie Methodist Church no longer exists but on the Towaninnie plains a location sign marks it. In common with many church communities the faithful who met here were very patriotic and their young men were strongly supported when they volunteeered during the Great War of 1914 -'18. This Honour Board once hung on the Methodist Church wall but is now at the Pioneer Settlement,Swan Hill. The actual Honour Board is believed to be the only one of its type with this listing. This photo of it contributes to and is part of a Local, State and National collection of War memorabilia that honours our servicemen and women.Wooden framed Roll of Honour photo - Towaninnie Methodist Church listing of 21 local WW1 servicemen. Holiday Yardage Mambo, David Bowers, (exact); 2003
MEDIUM: Acrylic on paper. DESCRIPTION: Image ranges from dark brown to pale brown with white. Light colored timber, outer frame with glass covering, white board and an inner frame. A very busy piece full of activity, starting from the bottom left we have an areoplane which is perhaps how this vacation begins, the sun sits above it and a bikini clad woman who has arrived to her destination is placed above the sun. There is cruise ship, a martini glass and a whale embracing the outer scene. Waves, a surfer, a marlin and a small guitar sit at the lower right. A large car takes the viewer to the centre of the picture where we come across a giant guitar. The music is what matters, this piece dances about the canvas in mushroom pinks and chocolates. Little outlines of fish fill the gaps. A very beachy scene. The image lyes quite flat to the eye, rough stick outlines of the images above. Signed proper left hand corner of image.bowers holiday, yardage, mambo acrylic -

Converge - Collins Street Window Reflection, Greg Considine, 2005
MEDIUM: Photographic print. DESCRIPTION: A photograph of abstract architecture. Black outer frame with glass front panel and white board inner frame. An abstract collection of building faces meeting towards a left off centre vertical line collision point. This picture is a meeting of mirrors, how many remains a mystery. Where one mirror or building starts and another ends, to the viewers eye is met with some uncertainty. Following lines, the clearest meeting of mirrors is where the building on the left appears to be the same and collides with a variety of other buildings coming horizontally in a distinct vertical line to the top of the image. The bulidings on the right have somehow through the skill of the photographer captured a bermuda triangle of walls. The mirroring angles of the walls being from either several different buildings, or from several different mirrors. This creates a strange collecetion of imagery, the viewer unable to make clear distinctions of where something starts or ends or from where it is coming from. The tonal shades and shadows created also play a role in creating an interesting collage of shapes and lines. This piece essentially speaks of lines, angles, geometric shapes, meeting points, shadow and light. Signed and dated on white board inner frame, directly under left corner of image.photograph, st, considine, converge, collins -

Oh Matise, Jo Darvall, (exact); 2006
MEDIUM: Acrylic on canvas. DESCRIPTION: Blue and black, no external frame. A figurative nude, the close up takes most of the canvas. It sits on a dark background in undefined surroundings. The blue woman sits flat as many of Matisse’s works do, favouring this style over the illusionistic depth to achieve his aim, here we see this replicated. Matisse is also noted for his use of colour as a means of expression rather than description. Here we have a woman painted all in blue, with this knowledge we could say the artist has painted his subject as someone who has been captured in a very relaxed, very calm version of herself, an ocean onto herself, mysterious and captivating in this moment. Her arm slung confidently above and around her head, her view directly facing the viewer provocatively. The only other colour on her other than the thick black lines which outline and shadow her contours, is the circular red of her earring -mirroring the generous sweeping curves of the work. The presence of visible brushstrokes produces a sense of movement and energy as well as providing a decorative quality to the painting.Signed and dated on bottom proper left of center of image (on reverse of canvas).acrylic, darvall, matisse -

Industrial Hope, Emma de Clario, (exact); 2005
MEDIUM: Oil on kiln dried red gum (wood block) DESCRIPTION: Black figure och blue and white background, wood block, no frame. A realistic depiction of an industrial crane against a predominantly cloud covered sky. The crane set in the lower centre of the canvas almost becomes secondary to the sky and cloud which dominate the wood block. The sky set in bright and vibrant blues contrast the darkness of the clouds, ominous and heavy in shades of grey and green, the colours seem to reflect the relentless clock of industry. A patch of light behind the crane gives it a strong focal point. Signed and titled on reverse of imageoil, de, hope, clario, industrial, photograp -

Amber Bead Mandala, Rosemary De Dear, (exact); 2002
MEDIUM: Digital print. DESCRIPTION: A fractal exploration on 192 gsm archival matt. Image ranges from yellow, orange, and red to darker tones. Gold outer frame with a glass front. The Mandalas geometric designs are symbolic of the universe and used in Hinduism and Buddhism as an aid to meditation. The creative possibilities that exist in these sacred circles, are often based on a step-and-repeat principle, centre, and symmetry. Here we see this put into practise. The mandala has an iris quality about it with 16 pillars pulling centrally to what looks like a pupil, the centre of the mandala. This then has more points around it and then more once again. This fractal approach gives the work a textural depth. The use of blurring and merging in a kaleidoscopic fashion creates movement, the circular flow repetitive and calming. The use of reds throughout mandata art represent the glowing sun and of fire, red generally taken to be the color of life, love, joy and rage, the polar values of the color. Orange the colour of cheerfulness and gaiety, a colour mixed from red and yellow, it stands for kind-heartedness and warm-heartedness. MEDIUM: Inkjet print on cotton rag. DESCRIPTION: Abstract image, black and pale brown/ivory, black outer frame with glass, white board inner frame under glass. The objects appear to be broken up pieces of something greater. Pieces of a greater machine, here re-assembled in hard angular lines and triangular blocks, in abstracted form. The image is a close up, the ink on cotton comes up in rough grainy scratches of shadow. Shades of grey with highlights of blue. Dark angles with patches and corners of pure black. Hard dark lines which meet with white surfaces, blend into grey.Signed, titled and dated on backing board.de, grouchy, lightspace, inkjet -

Disney World Florida USA 25th Anniversary 1996, Massimo Di Sora, (exact); 1996
MEDIUM: Photo/collage DESCRIPTION: Photo collage Green wooden outer frame with glass front Image and yellow board inner frame under glass. The complete image is made up of 18 individual photographs compiled together to make one image. The image is of Disney Florida’s 25th Anniversary; here the artist captures the excitement and colour of such an event. The textural quality this collage technique offers is an interesting one. Each photograph has an individual quality about it, the outer perimeters of each print having lighter or darker edges to its neighbouring print. Continuous lines do not always meet; the tops of spiers are at times cut off. The tonal qualities of each print also vary, some slightly, some dramatically different to each other. Book - Literary Work, James Anthony Froude, Short Studies on Great Subjects Vol 1, 1872
This book was part of a large group of books referred to as the Pattison Collection, which belonged to the Warrnambool Public Library, part of the Warrnambool Mechanics’ Institute. The publisher firm, Longmans, Green & Co, was originally founded in 1724 in London by Thomas Longman under the name Longman. In August of that year, he bought the two shops and goods of William Taylor and set up his publishing house there at 39 Paternoster Row. The shops were called Black Swan and Ship, and it is said that the 'ship' sign was the inspiration for Longman's Logo. After many changes of name and management, the firm was incorporated in 1926 as Longmans, Green & Co. Pty Ltd. The firm was acquired by Pearson in 1968 and was known as Pearson Longman or Pearson PLC.The book is also significant for its connection to the publisher Longmans, Green and Co., of London, a firm that has been established for around two centuries and is renowned for publishing and printing reference works that contributed to the education of scholars over many years. The book has additional importance for its connection to the Pattison Collection, which, along with other items at Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village, was originally part of the Warrnambool Mechanics' Institutes’ Collection. The Warrnambool Mechanics’ Institute book collection has historical and social significance for its strong association with the Mechanics Institute movement and its important role in people's intellectual, cultural and social development throughout the latter part of the nineteenth century and the early twentieth century. The collection of books is a rare example of an early lending library and its significance is enhanced by the survival of an original collection of many volumes. The Warrnambool Mechanics' Institute’s publication collection is of both local and state significance.Short Studies on Great Subjects Vol 1 Author: James Anthony Froude Publisher: Longmans Green and Co.
