Hearing Aid, Rexton, Rexton Model Super Master - Hearing Aid
The first all transistor hearing aids appeared in 1953. They were created to replace vacuum tubes; they were small, required less battery power and had less distortion and heat than their predecessor. The vacuum tubes were typically hot and fragile, so the transistor was the ideal replacement. The size of these transistors led to developments in miniature, carbon microphones. These microphones could be mounted on various items. There were body hearing aids where the earpiece was connected to the hearing aid and battery pack worn on the body. Ear level hearing aids consisted of eyeglass, behind the ear (BTE), in the ear (ITE), and in the canal (ITC, CIC) hearing aids. Part of the development of hearing aids Gold and burgundy metal casing, with an ear piece attached by wire. This is a body-worn hearing aid, with user instruction booklet. Munitions, Cartridge reloader
This cartridge re-loader is most likely for loading 12 gauge shotgun shells. It is not known if it was for private or military use. This cartridge re-loader has been in the collection of the Warrnambool and District Historical Society for many years but it has no known local provenance. It is an interesting relic from times past. This is a brass cartridge re-loader. It has a rectangular brass base with four brass columns supporting a rectangular top with a hollow middle. The columns of the casing are affixed with metal screws. Inside this protective casing are two cartridge-shaped brass pillars, one with a metal spike at the end and one with a small opening at the top. Both of these pillars are fixed to the base of the protective casing. Over-arching these two objects is a brass lever hinged at the end. This has a wooden handle The arm of the lever has a small protusion on the bottom which pushes into the opening of one of the pillars. It also has a small indentation which fits into the spike of the other pillar. ‘12’ history of warrnambool, cartridge re-loader -

Compass, c. 1930s
The nautical compass is used for determining directions, using a free moving magnetised needle, indicating north and south. This is a medium sized compass and was suitable for mounting in a fixed brass binnacle or a portable wooden box. The compass fluid was typically lamp oil, or a mixture of alcohol and water. This compass, based on its pattern, was probably manufactured around the 1930s. The compass’s maker, Bergen Nautik, was a 20th Century compass manufacturer, making compasses from the 1900s but no longer in business. The factory was located in Hordaland County, Bergen, on the west coast of Norway. This compass is not a very significant marine item as it was made in the 20th century. Examples of the same compass that have been salvaged can be purchased today mounted either in a wooden box or a brass pedestal.Compass; marine or ship's compass, brass, gimbal mounting, in blue metal casing.
