The train is headed towards Surrey Hills station. In the background are the Hamilton Street shops with advertising posters on their rear walls. The donor George Lister Coop was about 27 years of age when he took this photo. It is one of a small series of photos donated by him that relate to Mont Albert and Surrey Hills stations. He has always had an interest in railways and there are other examples of his documentation of railway history in other collections contributing to this database. This book has been written by Vanda Savill and is about the settlers in the Wallacedale area in Western Victoria. Wallacedale is 28 kilometres south west of Hamilton and was created by the draining of the Condah Swamp. Vanda Savill (1913-2005) and her husband ran a dairy farm and the Bower Birds Nest Museum and History Centre at Heywood. Vanda Savill was passionate about keeping alive the personal histories of local people and for 20 years she wrote and published many books about the areas in which she lived. This book is of interest because it tells the stories of settlers in the Wallacedale area of Western Victoria. It also has appeal because of the warm, conversational style of the author.This is a soft cover book of 216 pages. The cover has a white background with a black and white image of a hand holding a pen and, on the front cover, five black and white photographs and, on the back cover, nine black and white photographs. In 1987, Australia Post released Christmas stamps and two first-day covers (envelopes with stamps affixed) with the Carols by Candlelight theme. The top first-day cover has a red candle in a gold old-style candlelight holder, with five stamps showing groups of people who are singing and holding similar candles. A large '50th Performance of Carols by Candlelight, Melbourne, Vic 3000, 24 Dec 1987' mark is stamped on the envelope, which has a background image of the Myer Music Bowl, a candle and songbook. The lower first-day cover has a boy holding a red candle in his right hand and a songbook in his left, singing. Two stamps, different to the ones in the envelope above, are affixed to the envelope and consist of groups of people holding red candles and singing. One '50th Performance of Carols by Candlelight ...' cancellation mark is stamped. Hamilton Waterworks Trust was a predessor authority to Glenelg Region Water Authority (Glenelg Water). Glenelg Region Water Authority was constituted on 1 July 1994 under the Water Act 1989 and amalgamated the previous authorities of Glenelg Wannon Water Board, Glenelg Waterworks Trust, Hamilton Water Board and Shire of Mount Rouse Water and Sewerage Authorities.A cast iron seal press. One of a group of photographs salvaged from a fire, which took place in late 2007 or early 2008, at the cellars building that is now the home of the Rutherglen Estate tasting rooms and the Tuileries restaurant and accommodation. The building started as the cellars of D.G. Hanlon and Mrs Hanlon, Deputy Premier Lindsay Thompson and Joan Thompson, conductor Harold Badger, compere Bruce Mansfield and two other couples sing along to carols upon the stage. In the foreground the Salvation Army band plays, whilst in the background various choirs join in.
