Black and white photo. Large gathering of people of all ages including children, appear to be dressed for a funeral. In the centre there a group of people who appear to be conducting a funeral, some appear to be dressed in Free Masons clothing or Rechabite, four men are holding poles, two are wearing Free Masons bibs. To the left of the photo are what appears to be mounds from fresh graves. On the right side of the photo there is a monument, possibly for a grave, a picket fence runs along the back of the crowd. Could be the Bendigo or Eaglehawk cemetery. Possibly early 20th century Markings/Inscriptions: H J G Biggs, Health Inspector. Edward Martin (b. 1858)arrived in South Australia from Ireland in 1879. In 1882 they settled at Salisury West in Victoria. In 1909 he purchased the property "Lorraine" in Pompapiel. This property was sold and the family moved a mile away. 1911 they repurchased "Lorraine". and continued to farm. 1. Rev Harry George Mackay (30/5/1914 - 9/9/1988) was born in Sheffield, Tasmania. He served part time as a chaplain during WW2 (V517227) After the war he married Thelma Muriel Phillips (10/6/1920 - 13/7/2008) in 1946. They are both buried at the Mornington Cemetery. 2. Mr John Brown Hamlett was born in England. In 1951 he married Audrey Sommerville in in Scottsdale, Tasmania. Their first son, David was born in Tasmania in 1952.
