Apprenticeship Indenture made on the second of February 1878 between Thomas William Orr and Charles Stoneman commencing 20 July 1878 for the terms of five years ending 19 July 1883. Indenture between 'James Orr, father of Thomas William Orr ( now employed as a blacksmith with Mr. Charles Litchfield Stoneman, Coach Builder) of Sandhurst. The said James Orr (father) agrees to allow his son Thomas Orr (unclear) to ecome an apprentice to the said Charles Litchfield Stoneman to the trade or business of a blacksmith.' Pinned to front of indenture is a newspaper article, no date, re the conditions for apprentices 'have certainly changed in the last 60 odd years' and details the conditions of a coachbuilder apprenticeship in 1889. 'Taverns , inns, or alehouses he shall not haunt' and 'matrimony he shall not contract' are some of the terms of apprenticeship. Penleigh Boyd, Robin and Patricia Boyd's son, writes “Prior to 1950 Robin, like most other amateur or hobby photographers, took black and white printed photographs. The oldest slides date from 1950 when Robin and Patricia travelled to Europe on Robin’s Robert Haddon Travelling Scholarship.” In 1948 Robin Boyd was awarded ‘joint first place’ in the Robert Haddon competition for his design of Mildura art gallery. The scholarship helped fund their first overseas trip. Robin and Patricia were passengers on the Greek ship “Cyrenia” departing in May 1950, passing through the Suez Canal and landing in Genoa five weeks later. For six months, they travelled extensively throughout Europe (predominantly driving themselves) - France, Italy, United Kingdom, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Spain.Colour slide in a mount. The identity discs of Australian soldiers of the First World War were initially made of aluminum and then made of a fibre material. Like other soldiers of the Great War the Australian 'Diggers' were issued an identity tag or disc. The first official disc was a small flat metal disc of aluminum, then there were two identity discs issued, made of a fibre one was a red disc the other was grey and octagonal. The discs were usually stamped with the information that the Military required. The Regimental number, Regimental name, soldiers' surname and initials and his religion were on the tag. Douglas Russell was a farmer, the son of John Russell, director of the Orbost Butter Factory for 50 years. Alex Pullar Cameron died from injuries in 1919.Two World War 1 identity tags. The Bow Tie is a type of men's necktie that consists of a ribbon of fabric tied around the collar in a symmetrical manner such that the two opposite ends form loops. Ready-tied bow ties are available, in which the distinctive bow is sewn and a band goes around the neck and clips to secure. Bow ties may be made of any fabric material, but most are made from silk, polyester, cotton, or a mixture of fabrics. The Bow tie originated among Croatian mercenaries during the Prussian wars of the 17th century when the Croat mercenaries used a scarf around the neck to hold together the opening of their shirts. This was soon adopted under the name cravat, derived from the French for "Croat", by the upper classes in France, then a leader in fashion, and flourished in the 18th and 19th centuries. The most traditional Bow ties are usually of a fixed length and are made for a specific size neck. Sizes can vary between approximately 14 and 20 inches just like a comparable shirt collar. Fixed-length Bow ties are preferred when worn with the most formal wing-collar shirts, so as not to expose the buckle or clasp of an adjustable bow tie. Bow ties are worn by magicians, country doctors, lawyers, paediatricians, professors musicians and by people hoping to look like the above and clowns also wear oversized ones. In the 1980’s fashionable and professional women wore a type of Bow tie. Most men only wear Bow ties with formal dress.
