Referring to the legal history and transfer of land for the Junior Legacy Club Balnarring camp from Legatee Savige. Melbourne Legacy provided camps for junior legatees - the children of deceased servicemen. It started with outings to the property of Legacy founder, Legatee Stan Savige, who had a place in Balnarring. Permanent camp buildings were built in 1930. Lord Somers (Governor of Victoria) also ran a camp in the area and the area became known as Somers. These documents record the transfer of the land to Legacy. The camps gave the children an opportunity of a summer beach holiday with other Legacy children.An important record of the history of the land owned by Stan Savige that was used for Legacy Camp, it adds to the other material available about Legacy Camp at Somers.White foolscap paper with black typed x 5 pages. The Fashion & Design collection of Kew Historical Society includes examples of women’s, men’s, children’s and infants' clothing from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. While the collection includes some examples of international fashion, most items were handmade or purchased in Melbourne. Tenerife lace (calado canario) is one of the traditional industries of the Canary Islands off the coast of West Africa. It uses drawn work embroidery.Canary Island Tenerife lace blouse. James Leonard Foley’s family lived at ‘Warringal’, 3 Foley Street, Kew. Like many other soldiers from Kew, he was educated at the Kew State School. He enlisted at the age of 19 in March 1915. His previous occupation is recorded as 'Blacksmith'. James sent a postcard to his mother in 1915 saying that he was ‘quite well’. He was to be killed in action on the Western Front on 24 August 1916 and is buried in the Villers-Bretonneux cemetery. The land occupied by the Hamilton Street shops was subdivided in the 1880s and the first purpose-built shop was 'Pope and Moran, Grocers'. This shop later became Tom Morris' Grocery. By 1930 shops stretched along both sides of Hamilton Street and part way along Churchill Street. The donor the late Norman Carter took many photos documenting Mont Albert and Surrey Hills from the 1920s. Male wool shirt made in Bradford, U.K. The shirt is cut from first fabric woven from 100% traceable Australian wool. Bradford Mills differ to Australian mills in that the entire process of producing worsted material does not take place at the one firm/factory. Rather it is split between many firm/factories specialising in their task in the production of worsted material. For example, the wool goes from merchants to combers to produce tops, the tops to spinners to produce yarn and then the yarn is sold to manufactures who weave it into cloth. After the weaving is done the cloth has to be sent to the dryers and finishers, who scour, dye and finish the cloth. Finally, the finished cloth is purchase by a fresh set of merchants, who will later sell the cloth elsewhere in England or abroad. At each these steps a new firm is handling the wool/cloth making it hard to track lineage of wool through this process and hence hard to guarantee 100% Australian wool. This shirt was purchased and worn by the donor’s husband, George H. Gerber, an Australian Wool Buyer. The shirt was purchased on one of George’s trips to Bradford in the U.K. on company business. Gerber was a second-generation Wool Traders in his family. His father, also named George H. Gerber, worked for Kreglinger & Furneau. He worked for them in Boston, U.S.A. before he died from the Spanish Flu in 1918. The company then promised a job to his oldest son (donor’s husband) once he finished school. Thus, George came to be trained as a Fine Wool Classer by Kreglinger & Furneaux (Aust.) Pty Ltd where he was employed as a Wool Buyer all his working life. He retired in 1969 as the head of their Australian office when the company was taken over Also of note, the shirt was sold with 2 add-on collars. Having additional collars was advantageous as changing only the collar increased the number of days the shirt could be worn without washing. Cream coloured shirt with black and red single thread verticle stripes.“Grandpa” collar (with 1 of its 2 supplied add-on collars included). French cuffs. No background information about the roadworks referred to in this plan has been found. The portion of land referred to as 'Cosgroves' in this plan is located close to the present day Darley Park Recreation Park in Darley, near Bacchus Marsh. The land indicated appears to be close to the corner of Grey Street and Gisborne Road. Myrniong is a village 9 kilometers west of Bacchus Marsh. Prior to 1863 the area was known as Blow's Flat. This map which was produced in 1903 and according to the catalogue record of this map held at the State Library of Victoria was based on an earlier map created in 1861. The early layout of streets for the village of Myrniong can be seen on this map. The streets shown are, Main Street, Hardy Street, Blow Street, Myrniong Street, Shuter Street, and Blackwood Street.
