Sent to Mrs McDonald "Monald" 32 Grey Street Wangaratta from soldier during second world warVictoria's 2/24th Infantry Battalion was raised in Wangaratta in July 1940. They were welcomed with open arms by the local community as they rapidly built up their numbers. The people of Wangaratta adopted the Battalion and they became known as "Wangaratta's Own" because of the time the battalion spent in the town during its formative period prior to deployment overseas. Many of the soldiers maintained life long friendships with the people of Wangaratta. Alice McGREGOR Born: 1908; unknown parents. Possibly adopted by the Salter family? Electoral Roll 1936: Highland Terrace Kangaroo Flat. Alice Mary Salter and William Robert Salter living together; presumed to be sister and brother. William Robert Salter was killed in a MVA in Bendigo in 1937 aged 26. In Victoria in 1938, Alice Mary Salter married James Thomas McGregor (born Victoria 1917, died Victoria 1983, buried Fawkner Cemetery) Lived: 1968; 22 Wade Street Golden Square Alice McGregor Died: 1999 aged 91 at Anne Caudle Centre, Bendigo Buried: Kangaroo Flat Cemetery See additional research. The photograph shows a cable tram set being towed out of a car depot or car house by a tractor, North Fitzroy Nicholson St depot. The grip is in the raised position, with the gripman's hands on the brake levers. The conductor is waiting to pull the pin that secures the tow bar. The tram has the destination of Spencer St. Photo late 1930s or 1940. James Roe Lodge was part of the Manchester Unity group.It was unveiled in September 1921.This is a carved decorative white marble honour roll. The title and names (Surname with initials) are carved into the marble. The head piece is a curved top. It has a carved hand with a red heart in the palm. The wrist of the hand is attached to a sphere. Either side of the hand are some branches. On the outside of the branches are the letters "M" on the left and "U" on the right.
