Functional object - Ticket punch, Set of 3, c1960
Set of three brass cast, chrome plated, machined, device or ticket punches used to cancel or punch paper tickets when purchased. Placed a shaped hole in the ticket. Spring loaded, consists of two main parts with a pin & spring from coiled flat metal spring sheet. Some of the chrome plating has been worn off. There are no manufacturer markings on the punches. See https://onlineriver.com/transit-punches/ accessed 6-11-2017 for details of the new equivalent punches. .1 - number E1359 - punches a heart shaped hole - would have been used at Essend Depot. .2 - number 1086 - punches a large crossed hole. .3 - number E1413 - punches a rounded hole with a waistline appearance - would have been used at Essend Depot. The Sisters consented to being photographed as normally the Order is completely enclosed. The Mother Abbess stands in the front and, from left are Sister Peter, Sister Collette, Sister Baptista, Sister Anthony, Sister Ambrose, Sister John Francis and the Mother Vicaress. The Mother Abbess is English, the Mother Vicaress & another European Sister are (Scottish) and five Sisters are Indian and (Tamil) Minority. Colour photograph of Ballarat No. 18 at the View Point terminus in Wendouree Parade. Photograph has the conductor (and driver?) standing by the front of the tram, after the pole has been turned. Destination sign yet to be changed from View Point. Photo shows the tram stop arrangements with painted pole, "End of Section", "Cars Stop Here" sign, timetable sign and on the back of the pole a Section insulator connection box. Tram has two roof advertisements, SEC "Electric Cooking" and the Whites Florist Sturt St. shop advertisement and a "Pay as you Enter" sign. In the background is the Macarthur St. tram line. Demonstrates, yields information and has a strong association with the individual conductors on the day that the revenue journals were compiled. Shows the total revenue and passengers and how the passengers were counted. Demonstrates the system used to compile revenue returns and passenger numbers.Set of 34 completed "Revenue Journals", for recording the value of tickets sold by Conductors. Compiled for the 11/3/1971, "D" tin. Shows how the forms were completed and who was on duty that day. Have been signed by each conductor. Numbers of checks issued varies from 6 to 499. Outfit 41D has notes regarding a school passenger. Gives the totals, cash returned and overs/under amounts. Has a metal folding pin near the top left hand corner of the sheet, with the cover giving details of the outfit and date.
