Alex Ball attended the Ballarat Teachers' College This notebook contains details regarding Alex Ball's teaching rounds at the following schools around Ballarat. They were the Wendouree state school, Wendouree west state school, Pleasant street state school, Macarthur street rural school, and Alfredton state school.Included throughout the notebook are various handwritten images which were noted as a copy of that day's lesson taken off the blackboard.They were kept in place with metal holders. Set of 7 transparencies taken undated (appear to be 1970 or 71) on PAKON mounts. Also possibly copy slides as quality is poorish. 1175.1 - No. 27 has derailed at Depot, across Wendouree Parade, and No. 33 appears to be about to try and tow it back on. Wendouree Parade totally blocked. Adjacent pole has tram stop sign and has "Stafford Court" street sign mounted on it. 1175.2 - No. 43 at corner of Drummond St. South and Dana Street, with destination Lydiard St. North. 1175.3 - No. 42 (Mt Pleasant) and 21 (Gardens via Sturt St. West) crossing at Gardens Loop. 1175.4 - No. 42 bound for Lydiard St. Nth at intersection with Macarthur St. Shows the retaining wall for the cutting on the east side of Lydiard St. Nth. 1175.5 - No. 43 at corner of Lydiard St and Sturt St., at city terminus showing "Special" and tram 35 adjacent to Post Office in Lydiard St. Nth. Photo shows the small tram stop pole at this location and Post Office building. 1175.6 - No. 39 and 26 and 27 at the Mt Pleasant terminus. Near closure as a bus stop sign has been positioned on the west side of the road. Yields information about the formation of the BTPS in 1971 and some of the people who attended meetings etc.Newspaper clipping pasted onto a single sheet of paper with two Punch holes on the left hand side. Clipping from the Courier, Ballarat, Monday April 19, 1971, titled "Move to Keep some trams for Tourists" front page as it gives the price (of 6 cents) and number of pages (16), with the article about the first positive move to establish a working tramway museum in Wendouree Parade as a historical feature and tourist attraction was made with the formation of a project committee yesterday. Covers the formation of the Lake Wendouree Tramways Museum Committee, 50 people attending the meeting at Brown Hill, mentions Mr. Maurice Calnin, Mr. C. (Bill) Jessup, (spelt Jessop) and gives notes on proposals, other similar museum and potentials. Item was spread over two pages, second part on page 13. Both sections have been cut out and pasted adjacent to each other. 1074.1 - photocopy of the article added 24/1/2008. Set of 15 black and white views of Ballarat printed on a folded strip, glued within a grey colour cardboard folder, titled "Photographic View Booklet Ballarat". Booklet printed with an address area within a leaf and on the rear, an area where the sender could write their name. Produced by The Valentine Publishing Co. Pty Ltd Melbourne. ESCo Employee Hours Work Record book that has been used by an ESCo/SEC inspector, H. P. James as a record / note book for his personal collection or papers or journal titled "Out of the Past". Book sewn with string in 36 page sections, blank end papers, board covers with stipple paper out sides and Rexene cloth binding. Comprising plain paper end papers and 104 printed pages (52 leaves), with each sheet printed in black on feint ruled paper for recording the hours worked and other details of drivers and conductors employed by ESCo. Printed for daily use, with Day and date page headings - made out for the 1930's. Images: Book - i1 Inside front cover - i2 Members Certificate - i3 Has been used to gather mementos such as photos, articles, newspaper clippings, letters and other miscellaneous documents on Ballarat local history. Newspaper cuttings etc often have side notes written by Mr. James. Inside front cover has certificate recording Mr. James membership to the Ballarat Historical Society for 1940. Receipt signed by Edward Crimmins. Also a newspaper cutting on the cost of pensions to Lord Nelson's family. On facing page a photo of Queen Elizabeth, a printer colour cover or sheet about Walt Disney's "Pinocchio", a newspaper cutting regarding Father's Day and a black and white photograph of a young girl in a hospital carriage being pushed by a man. Pages numbered odd numbers only in the top right hand corner in pencil. Primary items are: 1 - Coloured cover to a writing tablet, titled "Australian Birds". Underlying this on the back of the writing tablet is two newspaper cuttings: the Ballarat Historical Society - reports on the 6th Annual meeting of the Society. 3 - Photo of the pattern Ballaarat Horse Tram company tram outside the Duncan and Fraser's Carriage Works in Adelaide with hand written notes underneath, including a sketch of a horse tram drivers seat - see Reg.
