Gracia Haby and Louise Jennison have been creative collaborators since 1999, working together to make artist books, zines, collages, drawings, prints and stories. In this artwork, the animals have the upper hand. They are turning the tables on French acrobat, circus owner, and animal trainer, Alfred Court (1883-1977). In 1925, Court's menagerie boasted a collection of 25 lions, 8 tigers, 9 hyenas, 7 wolves, 3 cougars, 12 polar bears, 16 panthers and leopards, 5 jaguars, 2 cheetahs, and an extensive assemblage of exotic animals, including antelopes, llamas, and camels, alongside several monkeys, porcupines, and mongooses. Haby and Jennison’s collaboration explores their mutual fascination with the adaptable possibilities of paper and found images.

This crochet chart was designed by the twentieth century crochet pattern designer, Mary Card, for the Victorian Centenary in 1934. It was published in the Australian Home Beautiful magazine on November 1934. The chart was published in four sections, with instructions for working it as a complete piece. David Miller (Dave) Mair (1879-1938) married Lily Vipond Deakin (1890-1945) in 1910. They had 5 children: Geoffrey David (1913-1970), Beryl (1916-1976), Gwynneth (1917-1997), Isabel Lillian (1921-1997) and Shirley Inez (1928-1968). Personal communication from Laurie Newton, Beryl's daughter: Dave and Lily initially lived in East Melbourne after they married. Dave walked across the gardens to work at the MCG. He never drove or owned a car. Geoffrey, Beryl and Gwynneth were born in East Melbourne. They subsequently moved to Louise Avenue, Mont Albert and Isabel may have been born while they were there. Later they purchased 20 Barton Street, Mont Albert. Shirley was born after they moved to Barton Street. This is part of a large donation of material from the Deakin, Mair and Young families. Wooragee Landcare, since its establishment in 1998, has organised a series of events and activities in order to promote weed and pest control, provide assistance and knowledge to landholders and ensure sustainability and protection of natural vegetation. This photograph was taken on the 3rd April 2004 as part of an event called "Spotlight on Fox", organised by the Wooragee Landcare Group. It was addressed to all landholders in the area and involved practical demonstration of techniques suitable for integrated fox control. Camille Velesky, who is illustrated in the photograph, was the presenter; he is a specialist in fox behaviour and has worked for 27 years on pest control. Under the Catchment and Land Protection Act 1994 (CaLP Act) foxes are declared as established pest animals and landowners have the responsibility to take reasonable steps to protect their land from established pest animals. The most commonly used management techniques are baiting, shooting, guard animals, fencing, trapping, canid pest ejectors, above-ground harbour removal, property hygiene and fumigation. Trapping, due to the significant suffering and distress that causes to foxes, has significant animal welfare implications and should be avoided if there is another suitable alternative. The photograph is an example of the type of events and activities organised by Wooragee Landcare to educate and inform local residents and landholders on the most suitable techniques for integrated fox control. The skink was found in the garden on a property in Glenburn, Victoria, Australia. It was burnt during the February 2009 bushfires. Two specimens were found immediately after the bushfires however only one was locatable when donated.This specimen has historic significance for its association with the February 2009 bushfires. It is a rare, complete example of the impact of the bushfires on a diverse range of fauna in and around Yarra Ranges. Although many animals were affected by the bushfires, very few specimens were collected and preserved. The museum register is somewhat ambiguous but it is recorded - along with about 12 others - that this specimen was transferred from the 'Nat. Sc. Dept' in September 1899. The specimen also apparently has something to do with Frederick McCoy; his name is entered as the party that identified the skeleton. It seems certain that these were a batch (accession numbers MUZD1113-1126) of specimens given to the university teaching museum during the move of the state museum from the university campus to its subsequent site on Russell St. Examination of the Currawong skeleton (and some of the others in this batch) revels that the specimen has been remounted at some point.
