According to the donor, the entry was undertaken by the Women's Section of the Country Party to promote the use of wool in furnishings. There are two certificates in the photo, on which the word "Tarnagulla" can be seen. The women who made the items may have been from this town. The items are interesting for the use of modernist, Art Deco style designs.Photograph depicting a show entry of woolwork which won first prize and show champion at the Royal Melbourne Show in 1933 and the first prize at the Bendigo Agricultural Show in 1933."WOOLWORK" / 1st Prize & Champion Melbourne Royal Show 1933. / 1st Prize Bendigo Agricultural Show 1933.handicrafts agricultural shows, country party - women's section, handicrafts, agricultural shows -

Platform Scales, Avery
Averys Ltd was the holding company for the 32 operating companies in the Avery Group. The Group's main activity was the design, manufacture, sale and servicing of a wide range of weighing machines, physical testing machines and fluid measuring equipment. The company's history can be traced back to 1730, with the manufacturing by hand of steelyards and beam scales in a small workshop in Birmingham. When legislation was introduced at the turn of the century requiring the stamping of all weighing machines used for trade Avery branches were set up in some 100 towns in the United Kingdom. This was the beginning of the sales and service organisation that expanded to cover not only every important town in the United Kingdom but was also established in many overseas countries. Envelope Art
Envelope Art made during WW2 Victoria's 2/24th Infantry Battalion was raised in Wangaratta in July 1940. They were welcomed with open arms by the local community as they rapidly built up their numbers. The people of Wangaratta adopted the Battalion and they became known as "Wangaratta's Own" because of the time the battalion spent in the town during its formative period prior to deployment overseas. Many of the soldiers maintained life long friendships with the people of Wangaratta. Even though the Battation was disbanded in 1946 members and their families return each year, in November, for a commemorative service at the 2/24th Battalion Memorial Wall at the Wangaratta Cemetery.Cream paper envelope with coloured picture of sun setting over water with palm trees in foregroundTop left - ACF in red star / AIR MAIL Top right - postage stamp Right side Mrs M MacDonald "Monald" 32 Grey Street Wangaratta Victoria Australiaenvelope art, ww2 -

Memorabilia - Trench Art - Vase, unknown
Trench Art is the name given to objects manufactured by both soldiers and civilians from shell casings, bullets, shrapnel and miscellaneous battlefield debris, and is predominantly associated with World War I (1914 – 18). The most common material used for trench art are brass shell casings, which, once decorated, can be utilised as vases. Often items will bear an inscription such as the name of a French village or theatre of war and engraved decoration or embossing. There is no known history in relation to this vase.Large brass shell casing with decorative engraving.Engraved - Les Halles D'Ypres 1914-19 with engraving of building possibly town hall or church . Poster, Women of Queensland!: Send a man today to fight for you, c1914-1918
An excellent example of Australian First World War recruiting posters aimed at women, rather than potential soldiers. The poster suggests that in helping defeat Germany, women were really defending themselves.During the First World War, governments needed to convince their citizens to contribute to the war effort. In the absence of radio and film, the poster was the most effective method of mass communicationDepicts a woman with arms raised, her clothing torn and right breast exposed. Two children lie dead on the round at her feet, while the town behind her burns. Full poster text: 'Women of Queensland! Remember how women and children of France and Belgium were treated. Ladies Jinker
LADIES PONY GIG – circa early 1900’s) The gig was built by T Rose, North Melbourne. Australian coachbuilders adopted American designs and modified these to suit local conditions, eg mudguards added for muddy country roads. As roads improved, lighter and faster designs were made. These gigs were more comfortable than the normal farm cart / town cart (see nearby butcher’s cart), as they were often sprung for comfort rather than carrying heavy weights. (Donated by: Ivan & Gwen Russell, who purchased it from the Hogan Family, Tatura, in 1998) Ivan & Gwen Russell purchased this jinker from the Hogan Family at Tatura in 1998 "The only information we have is that it was built by T. While the recording clearly has local significance, it is also of national and international significance due to the content of the Prime Minister's address. The focus of his speech is the nature of Australian democracy and its strengths, deriving from universal suffrage and the acceptance of democratic values by the Australian population, gained through historic participation in democracy at local, state and federal levels. RG Menzies mounts a strong case for each level of government having value in the development of Australian democracy. He also describes the emerging democracies of Africa in the period following decolonisation, and suggests that the success of these countries is dependent on democratic institutions not being imposed from above by colonial powers.
