Newspaper - BEATING THE BOUNDS CEREMONY ENACTMENT
Newpaper article, undated but probably 1951, describing the 'enactment of the centenary feature the 'Beating of the Bounds'. Article describes the enactment by the Bendigo Pony Club members ' on horseback, followed by citizens in motor cars and pushbikes.' Colour photograph of bluestone fireplace erected at Barnadown to commemorate the camp site of the Burke and Wills expedition.The stone fireplace is a memorial to the Burke and Wills Expedition which camped near here. It was erected by the Waranga Shire Council to commemorate the centenary of the Victorian Exploring Expedition`s passage through the Barnadown district in 1860. Lucy Hill (nee Bobotham) Photograph. This photo of a smiling suited lady sitting in armchair in a library is Lucy Hill journalist for the Advertiser. (photo is in this collection). Lucy Hill published childrens stories and poems under the pen-name of Aunt Evelyn. She won the competition for writing the words for The Centenary Song. As Lucy Bobotham she was presented the First Prize for the Gravel Hill State School Choir competition. Mr & Mrs Hill also published in the Advertiser under "In the Spot Light". Lucy Hill has written extensively for many metropolitan papers and magazines, short Stories, verse, series (An Unexpected Achievement), song lyrics (The Centenary Song) and children's pages. Randall Collection: Selection of badges relating to R Bruce Plowman. 7782.7a three brass and enamel badges, with pins; 7782.7b card from donor describing the badges: Description there of ''St Andrews PWMU'' badge - this is actually inscribed on the badge as: ''PYMBC Union of Victoria''; the 1937 Centenary badge is described by the donor as burning Bush group's but this is not noted on the badge itself; 7782.7c handwritten note from donor explaining some detail as to Plowman family and donor's father - he was an Elder at St. Andrews (when Rev. McLean was minister), he was known as the ''Man from Oodnadatta'' re this Australian Inland Mission work, he was at some stage President of the Bendigo Competitions and on the committee. -

Document - WELCOME STRANGER CENTENARY, MOLIAGUL, VICTORIA, 5 Feb, 1969
Welcome Stranger Centenary, Moliagul, Victoria, Australia 1869 1969. Replica of 'Welcome Stranger' Nugget, discovered at Bulldog Gully, Moligaul, on February 5, 1869, by John Deason and Richard Oates. History of gold nuggets in Australia in particular the 'Welcome Stranger.' 7 black and white photos. 1st photo is a group taken on site where the 'Welcome Stranger' nugget was discovered at Bulldog Gully, Moliagul, in February, 1869. John Deason is shown holding the shovel, and Richard Oates has the pick. Mrs Deason is seated on the ground. The gross weight of the nugget was 2,520 ounces. The nugget sold for 9,553 pounds and was 98.66 per cent pure gold. Henry Lawson's description of a goldfield would have been typical of Moliagul during the hectic goldrush days a century ago:- ''The yellow mounds of bullock With the spots of red and white, The scattered quartz that glistened Like diamonds in light; The azure line of ridges, The bush of darkest green, The little homes of calico That dotted all the scene.''
