Names were invited from the public, when no less than twelve hundred names were recorded, and the Society is making every effort to despatch the parcels as quickly as possible. So far six hundred and fifty parcels have been sent at a cost of 10/- (plus postage, 2/-) each The proceeds of this Concert go towards augmenting the funds of the Society to carry out this obligation.Bolton Bros. Macartney, in his book had this to say:- ''The Masonic Hall is by far the grandest building in Sandhurst (Bendigo), and a fitting and right noble home for such an Order to place their ark in. The building is one on the pure Corinthian order, lofty without, and spacious within; therein is the finest Assembly Hall out of Melbourne Town Hall. What an imposing façade, with its tapering columns rearing the graceful acanthus-leaf capitals 40 feet. . . . With the growth of Freemasonry in Bendigo, new Craft Lodges were established, as were lodges of higher degrees. At present the following lodges use the Temple and hall facilities:- Golden & Corinthian Lodge No. 7. Zenith Lodge, No. 52. Sanhurst Lodge, No. 194. Corona Lodge No. 195. The Lodge Composite, No. 314. Bendigo City Lodge, No. 714. The Bendigo Lodge of Mark Master Masons, No. 12. Royal Golden Chapter, No. 3. The Bendigo Royal Ark Mariner Lodge, No. 12. During the war he was an officiating Chaplin to the RAF Father MacEwan's normal duties as a parish priest . . . John Douglas Todd Tasmanian born in Tasmaniabut lived most of his life in Sydney. As associate artist with father MacEwan, John Douglas Todd, Sydney pianist, is making his sixth tour for the ABC and his second tour with Father MacEwan. In Retrospect In mid 1952, a distinguished man arrived in Bendigo and interested several citizens, including Dr. P Goodman, the President of the Musical Advancement Society, in the formation of a Company for the production of Musical Comedy. The meeting was called at the home of Mr Fred Bush, and a group of enthusiasts made the acquaintance of Mr Norman Lee, our producer and sequently the M.A.S. and several leading citizens, sponsored the first production, by subscribing funds for initial expenses. From such humble beginning, our present Society originated. Mr Cyril Cyril Warne was appointed Musical Director, Mrs Phyllis House, Pianist, and Miss Madge Welch, Ballet Mistress. During the Season of ''Chu Chin Chow,'' the Society will stage its 100th performance - indeed an outstanding feat in such a brief history.
