"Perfect", electroplated nickel silver (EPNS) "Challenge" silverware. It is an example of the golden era for the production of domestic silverware in Australia. The "Perfect" Teapot was made from 1927 with worldwide patents. It was such a success that the product range was greatly increased. This clock was placed in what was called the "Writing Room" of the Soldiers Memorial Institute when it was opened in 1921. After the renovations to the SMI in 2016 - 18 the clock was placed back in the same position in what is now called "The Building and RSL History Room".Pendulum Wall Clock, timber frame with glass front insets in door, clock face has Roman Numerals, chimes on the hour and half hour, wind up key inside. Domestic object - CLOCK, WALL, PENDULUM, Prescott & Dawe Bendigo, possibly pre war
This clock was placed originally in what was called the "Billiard Room" of the Soldiers Memorial Institute Bendigo. There is no apparent connection to the RSL or Military service of F. Prescott. Frederick Napoli Prescott was a prominent Bendigo Optician and Jeweller at the corner of Mitchell and Hargreaves Street Bendigo. He was later in partnership with Mr C.M. Dawe trading as Prescott & Dawe. Mr Prescott died in 1913. Textiles. Woven thread design, edged with a 2.5 cm fringe. A deep coffee coloured linen, with a woven deign in the centre 8 cm square, surrounded with a 2 cm wide border, woven in a different texture. Textile - SUGAR-BAG WAIST APRON, 1930-40's
Textiles. A delightful Depression or Wartime, home made item. Cut in a wedge shape, with a bottle green nylon fabric, waistband, extending to become the tires at the wearers back. The green nylon also forms a one inch (2.4 cm) border along the sides, and extending to a 1.5 cm border on the reverse. This binds the hession to prevent fraying. Two wedge shaped pockets are also bound on three sides, and tucked into the side edge bindings at each side of the apron. 5.5 cm from the top of each pocket is a 1.5 cm band of drawn threadwork, interlaced to form a pattern with green wool. This drawn thread pattern is repeated 3.5 cm above the lower edge. The lower edge is stabilised with a row of blanket stitch in green wool, and a 3 cm fringe of the hession fabric. Textiles. Two doyleys, rectangular in shape, and made from net fabric. Outer edges are cut in a zig-zag shape - 2.5 cms long edges ^^. These edges are outlined by a double row of white corded thread. The doyleys are decorated with a large ''snow-flake'' shape in the centre-made with four rows of cording thread. This large ''snowflake'' has a smaller six pointed shape on each side, with a row of three smaller ''snowflakes'' at top and bottom of large snowflake.textiles, domestic, pair of embroidered net doyleys
