This bags owner Mrs Edna Parker is a Wandin local with connections back to the original Rouget family of the Wandin Area. This is one of a collection of items received from the practice of Dr Lachlan Hardy-Wilson, FRCOG, Launceston, Tasmania.Stainless steel punch forceps. There are two circular finger grips at one end, resembling a pair of scissors, attached to short arms that meet at a point. A long narrow shaft extends perpendicularly from this point, ending in a small, hinged, toothed grip. Writing engraved on one arm of forceps reads 'Stainless Germany'. These items were part of a collection of instruments used by Dr Michael Kloss in his medical practice. Dr Kloss subsequently donated this collection to the College.Two small metal towel clips. The clips resemble small sets of scissors, with a ratchet adjacent to the handle to lock them at particular apertures. The end of each arm of the scissors bends upwards 90 degrees, then towards the centre of the clip at another 90 degree angle. Each arms tapers to a sharp point, with the ends of the points facing and adjacent to each other. Both clips are engraved with the word 'Kloss'. Article one 'In the Spotlight' details the history of the Pieper Family in Bendigo and the hotel at Piepers Hill. On the back of the article in pencil is written 'Thursday's Advertiser Sept 22, 49 (Bendigo Advertiser 22/9/1949). Article two is from the Bendigo Sun 15/10/1925 and shows a photo of three male members of the Pieper family. The accompanying caption is in poor condition but the name Carl Pieper is legible also the following information 'In Bendigo district since 1855. They came to Bendigo 70 years ago ...... Adelaide. The Wodonga Historical Society Haeusler Collection provides invaluable insight into life in late nineteenth and early twentieth century north east Victoria. The collection comprises manuscripts, personal artefacts used by the Haeusler family on their farm in Wodonga, and a set of glass negatives which offer a unique visual snapshot of the domestic and social lives of the Haeusler family and local Wodonga community. The Haeusler family migrated from Prussia (Germany) to South Australia in the 1840s and 1850s, before purchasing 100 acres of Crown Land made available under the Victorian Lands Act 1862 (also known as ‘Duffy’s Land Act’) in 1866 in what is now Wodonga West. The Haeusler family were one of several German families to migrate from South Australia to Wodonga in the 1860s. This object is a German bible printed in 1702. It was published by Sebastian Göbels at the town of Schleusingen in the Thüringian Forest, and has 1770 pages. The bible was brought to Australia by the Haeusler-Klinge family when they migrated to South Australia in 1846. Ferdinand Haeusler came to Wodonga with other German families in 1866, bringing the bible with him. This item significant due to its age and rarity. It has well documented provenance and a known owner. It forms part of a significant and representative historical Haeusler Collection, which reflects the local history of Wodonga. It contributes to our understanding of European colonisation and settlement in Wodonga and north east Victoria in the mid nineteenth-century.
