Victorian State School's Horticultural Society was established in 1911 with the aims of distributing seed and bulbs to all member schools, to provided communication between interested teachers and to encourage seed and bulb collection and swapping between member schools.The book has a brown cover and red spine. Title: School Horticulture - a three-year course issued by the Victorian State Schools' Horticultural Society, first edition 1952, by E. F. Murnane supervisor of School gardening. The book is divided in three parts for each of the three years of the course. At the beginning of each section there is an index of the monthly work to be done in the garden. Reference to Rural Training in 1957 would have been mainly to the on-farm training phase of the Rural Reconstruction Training Scheme. The Agricultural Collegians Association members had a meeting point at the exhibit. Burnley ex-students were not members of that association."Black and white photograph. Arguably the only nineteenth century working man's exhibition garden in its original form and with original elements extant in Australia and still maintained by the descendants of the 19th century owners. Horticultural awards from three centuries remain in situ in the cottage.Ballarat was renowned as a garden city and this title was used as a popular tourism drawcard from very early in the city's development. Public and private gardens were often open to the public and in the case of Hymettus the garden is recorded as being open to the public as early as 1917.A late Victorian silver and gilt plated trophy.Presented by Cr The Honorable F.
