Float passing by the stoned retainer wall of Our Lady Help of Christians near the corner of Henry Street and Main Road Eltham. The float included a bark hut encompasing the motorised vehicle towing a trailer representing pioneers with a banner reading "The true heroes our pioneers". People dressed in historical costume sit on the float. This same float also participated in the Centenary parade in 1971. Floats were generally organised by community groups. EDHS would be pleased to learn which group organised this float. This 1917 dated 18pr shell case has a plaque in memory of Ernest 'Cappy' Sinclair. WW1 18pr guns were all that was available in the early days of WW2 and were used until the arrival of modern 25pr guns. Ernest served in the 2/2 Pioneer Battalion which was raised in Puckapunyal in Victoria in May 1940. After completing training, the battalion sailed for the Middle East aboard the Queen Mary in April 1941. The Grave of Hazel Rose Squire (died 28/09/1986) and Frederick Vincent Squire (died 04/05/1996), St Helena Cemetery. St Helena Cemetery was originally the burial place of the Beale family and friends. The first burials took place in the 1850s. Horse and cart with driver Mr. F. Thomson and passenger cross a wooden bridge with log tree trunk base construction supported by timber rails over Johnstone's Creek amidst the Kinglake forest. The bridge was built for the timber tramline. There was also a logging district in the Pheasant Creek area just outside the Shire of Eltham. Loading buckets of fruit, probably raspberries from "The Oaks" Thomson family property, Kinglake into a covered cart hitched to a horse by four hatted farm workers. Most likely the fruit was headed to the "jam factory" at Kinglake operated by the Kinglake Fruit Growers Preserving Company which was formed about 1900. The fruit was pulped as the first step in the process by beng cooked in a steam bolier.
