Wal Jack had an extensive range of correspondents throughout Australia and the world who often prepared extensive notes and records for him. It would appear from the letter that both parties are undertaking wartime activities, and provides details of horse tramways in South Australia and Western Australia. The letter may have had a further sheet as it is unsigned. Geoffrey (Geoff) Brooke was newspaper columnist, radio commentator, magazine writer and television broadcaster. He wrote a regular column for The Argus titled 'Your night out'. He opened his own restaurant, Geoff Brookes Steak Cave, in 1965. Later in his life he was a resident of Wellington Street, Kew. He died in 2003, aged 86.The Vandersluys-Kelly Collection of photographs, costumes and musical performance memorabilia was donated to the Kew Historical Society by Robin Denise Kelly in 2018. The collection is an important record of stage and recorded performances in Australia in the second half of the 20th century. This new nationally-focused and artistically significant collection augments and contextualises the local performing arts materials in our collection. The file contains a great deal of photocopied biographical information, as well as some newspaper articles/clippings. In 1981, the Kew Historical Society applied for the house to be registered by the Historic Buildings Preservation Council of Victoria. Accompanying the application was a citation by Timothy Hubbard (1981). A reply by the Boyce Pizzey, from the Council (1 May 1981) indicated that the building was of “insufficient architectural or historic importance” to warrant registration. The letter also indicated that the current owners had been requested to provide “a professional photographic record of the house and contents and submit these, along with all specifications and drawings, to the Latrobe Library, Melbourne”. Genealogists and local historians have probably seen every birth, marriage, death and census record available, and are adept at unsing the internet for research. However, once they have learnt everything they can from them, the next step is reading and understanding older documents. These can be hard to find (not many are online), are often written in challenging handwriting and use legal and other unfamiliar terms. Some will be in Latin, antiquated English or Scots. Readers need to be able to understand the nature and intent of a range of documents as well as the palaeography (the handwriting) and orthography (the 'shape' of the contents). Documents covered include wills and testaments, contracts, indentures, charters, land records, personal letters, official records, Church records and others, mainly from the period 1560 to 1800. Book, 2015 ANZAC Centenary Poppies Community Project Book, 2015
The 2015 ANZAC Centenary Poppies community project was run by Glen Eira City Council, community artists and the Glen Eira community. Glen Eira Council encouraged community involvement by inviting the community to handmake poppies (knitted, crocheted, felted or crafted, no more than 15cm in diameter) to be included in a display in the Town Hall’s gallery from April the 8th. The Poppies Community Project Display will be held from 8th April - 17th May 2015 in the Gallery Annexe at Glen Eira Town Hall, with the hundreds of poppies arranged and linked by artist Emma Davies. The display was accompanied by a display of war memorabilia and artefacts, and visitors were invited to record their own dedication in a commemorative book.This large, black book is embossed with the square logo for the City of Glen Eira on the front. It contains tributes and dedications made by members of the community as part of the 2015 ANZAC Centenary Poppies community project under the headings "Date / Name / Dedication". The object also includes an unattached handwritten letter, and a handwritten label attached to one dedication. The dedication entries are dated from 10/04/2015 to 17/05/2015. -

Some highlights include: 25/5/1976 it was reported that the newly formed Tandem Bicycle Club would be holding their meetings at Kooyong the first Sunday of each month. 30/6/1978 it was reported that in April the Kooyong complex of buildings was named H.M. Lightfoot Centre after the immediate past President of AFB. The Council has been successful in having included in the learner driver book of road rules a question on the significance of the white cane. 30/7/1979 The Chairman, Mr Sitlington, represented Blind Members at the opening of the Ballarat Day Centre, Kelaston, in April. 30/6/1980 it was reported that the BMC welcomed 119 new members during the past twelve months.
