Issued to Members of the Victorian State Parliament to provide free travel on trams. The tram was donated to the ARHS Museum in Newport in September 1980. The L. Arthur building is in the background. Photo shows W1 class tram 475 in Collins St near Spencer Street, with a Mont Albert destination on a very hot day. All the sun louvers in saloons are drawn. The tram has been fitted with route number boxes which is painted the same colour as the roof. A gentlemen in a white suit is walking across to the tram carrying a Gladstone Bag. In the background are Victorian Producers, Sepplet House and a warehouse. The photo is dated January 1930. Postcard shows an Electric Supply Co. tram turning from Sturt St into Lydiard St North. Has Criag's Hotel, the National Mutual Assurance buildings and the Town Hall in the view, along with the Robbie Burns statue. On the rear is a letter - to Ruby from Harry and a Victorian 1d stamp, but no address. Photograph of Victorian Railways built tram No. 53 which was sold to the MMTB following closure of the St Kilda - Brighton Beach line in 1959. Modified by the MMTB, as VR class tram No. 53 and generally used on the Moonee Ponds to Footscray route 82. Postcard - Souvenir ESCo opening Ticket, Electric Supply Co. of Vic (ESCo), August 1905
Used as a souvenir ticket and postcard on the opening day of the Electric Supply Co. of Victoria (ESCo), Ballarat tramways on 18 August 1905, Has been punched for the Mount Pleasant and Orphanage - Grenville St section. Collected by David Budge - 1879 - 1974, son of William and Mary Budge of Trevor St Ballarat, who worked for the Victorian Railways as a blacksmith residing in Walnut St Carnegie. Demonstrates a souvenir item for the opening of the electric tramways in Ballarat in the form of a postcard, which could be sent to others as a souvenir of the new tram system in Ballarat. Has a strong association with the collector.Postcard - size Souvenir Tram ticket, printed using blue ink on one side with fare, photos of power station, engine room, boiler room and a tram & No.2341 stamped on edge. The grip car is yet to be fitted with stanchions on its sides and does not have roof mounted destination signs on either vehicle. The trailer car is in the original company livery. Set of three newspaper clippings pasted onto a single sheet of paper with two Punch holes on the left hand side. First clipping from The Courier, Ballarat, 2/4/1971 with photo of tram 28 after is collision the previous day with a semi-trailer at the intersection of Princes and Victoria Streets. Gives names of the vehicle drivers and cost of the damage. Photo is of the tram returning to the depot under its own power. Tram passenger named as Margaret Foley, tram driven by James Mason and the truck driven by Gerald Winter of Gordon. See Reg Item 672.1 for a print of the Courier Photograph. Second is from The Courier, Ballarat, 15/4/1971 of the Brown Hill Progress Association chartering a tram to create interest in the project for the retention of Ballarat's trams. The tram was to leave Drummond and Sturt St. intersection the following Sunday at 1245. Item mentions the election of an interim executive and expression of interest of people outside the city. Third is from The Sun, Melbourne, 31/5/1971 about Ballarat 'tram-lovers' deciding to have a working tramway museum. Quotes Mr. Paul Nicholson, a member of the Ballarat Tramway Preservation Society. Notes that Museum will have eight trams using two miles of existing track around Lake Wendouree. Also notes that the SEC had received 88 applications for the 44 trams in both Ballarat and Bendigo.Image of the 3rd item added 28/3/2011 - see i1 and for the actual cutting i4. ... for the St Kilda - Brighton tramway, operated by the Victorian...Ballarat Tramway Museum South Gardens Reserve Wendouree ...Destination roll - white lettering on black background for the St Kilda - Brighton tramway, operated by the Victorian Railways until November 1956. Letters are 125 high, with painted black linen (glossy black), leaving the letters white, but with edge to give a shadow effect - see images. Roll quite stiff when rolled out. Roll 790 wide, with a top section (no destinations) 225 long, the destination roll section, 995 long and a bottom 240 long. Destinations in order are: ST KILDA RLY; DICKENS ST; VAUTIER ST; ELWOOD DEPOT; MID BRIGHTON; BRIGHTON BCH. Rolled in direction with destinations on the outside of the roll. Guards lamp - of the type used by the Victorian Railways to give a green, red or clear or white signal while shunting or authorising trains to proceed. Used by station staff, shunters, guards and signal men.While not directly related to Ballarat tramways, of the type used by the Railways in the Ballarat district.Hand Lamp, Guards - Exterior casing of a black painted metal railway signal lamp with circular blue (for green colour) and red glass filters and a turning mechanism on the top under a circular handle. Following the complete closure of the St Kilda - Brighton Electric street railway (tramway) in 1959, the Brighton St Kilda Bus lines operated a service under a contract with the Victorian Railways with a joint ticketting arrangement. These tickets are weekly tickets for various locations along the former tramway. Those tickets available for Melbourne have the conditions of travel on the rear. The two vertical stripes indicated that the ticket was available to pass through the gates at Flinders St or Spencer St, while the large cross indicated to a ticket checker that the ticket was not available beyond St Kilda station or to pass through a set of gates. All printed on a off white card. ... Report by the Victorian Parliamentary Public Works Committee ...Report by the Victorian Parliamentary Public Works Committee on "The Plenty Road, Preston, Tramway Extension Inquiry" - 1967. The inquiry examined the MMTB's proposal to extend the East Preston line 0.7miles or 1.3km. The Committee took evidence from the MMTB, bus operators, the Victorian Railways, residents, La Trobe University, Preston City Council and others. The Committee recommended against the proposal. The report lists those members of Parliament involved. The line was subsequently extended by 1.2 kilometres from Tyler Street to Boldrewood Parade during 1983 and subsequently to Bundoora.
