Heavyweight cotton canvas infantryman's pack of the type issued during World War 1. The pack is rectangular in shape with a top flap that secures at the front with two leather straps and brass buckles. There are two side flaps which secure under this top flap with a steel button and serve as weather protection. There are two leather shoulder straps at the back which are secured to a reinforced base at the top of the pack with a strip of leather and brass buckles and slides, the fixed ends of these straps are attached to the pack by stitched and riveted reinforced leather. At the bottom centre there is a leather loop to allow supporting straps to be secured to the pack. Also attached to each reinforced base at the top of the pack is a short length of leather with a brass buckle for attaching the upper ends of the supporting straps. Inside the flap is a partially obscured maker's stamp which reads 'AUSTRALIA C.G.H.F. 1918' with a broad arrow. A checker's mark of a broad arrow and the initials 'SA' are also stamped on the inside. An example of the World War 1 standard USA Army battle helmet issued to infantry troops. This version was known as the M1917 Helmet and is based on the British Brodie helmet with minor modifications. This steel helmet is painted matte khaki, with sawdust added to the exterior finish to provide a non-reflective surface. The brim, which is fitted with an outer steel rim, varies in width from 32 mm at the front to 35 mm at the sides and rear. The helmet inner liner is incomplete. Artillery cartridge case from an 18 pounder field gun. This used brass case was manufactured in 1917. The 18 PDR was the main field artillery armament of the British and Commonwealth forces during WW 1.

Spent ammunition casing from a World War 1 German 155mm field gun (maybe Naval?). This casing was manufactured in February 1916. This is an example of trench art having had an Australian Army 'rising sun' hat badge attached to the outside surface of the case.

Royal Australian Navy ratings cap worn by able seamen when in uniform, this white cap has a tally band and chinstrap in black material with the embroidered name "H.M.A.S. BRISBANE". This type of cap is a personal purchase for 'wearing out' and is known to sailor's as a "tiddly" hat. The hat has internal red (for Port) and green (for Starboard) lining bands.embroidered with the inscription : "H. M. A. S. BRISBANE" and the name "MAWBY D. A." and "DALE MAWBY" written inside.
