Newspaper cutting from The Courier, Ballarat, Monday Sept. 28, 1992, page 3 of the celebration of the Museum by operating trams along the shore of Lake Wendouree for almost 17 hours to mark the 21st anniversary of the closure of the Ballarat system. Includes a photo of a group of members sanding on the front of Horse Tram No. 1 - Len Millar, Frank Puls, David O' Neil, Alastair Reither, Colleen Low, John Phillips, Andrew Mitchell and Richard Gilbert. Includes comments by Richard Gilbert on the Museum, its Collection Policy and the winners of the colour competition including details of the prizes. Victorian Railways "S" circular, number S2038/74 advising of a BTPS excursion from Ballarat to Maryborough on Thursday 26/9/1974 (Melbourne Show Day). Noted that about 20 passengers travelling on the 12.45pm goods from Ballarat to Maryborough and returning on the 4.15pm rail car, a passenger carriage was to be attached to the goods train at the rear, next to the brake van. Also, a bulk ticket would be issued by the Stationmaster at Ballarat and signed by M.W.B. Ronald as Chief Traffic Manager. Issued on 16/9/1974. Victorian Railways "S" circular, number S.839/74 advising of a BTPS excursion from Morwell to Mirboo North on Thursday 25/4/1974 (Anzac Day). Noted that a BW carriage to be attached to the Mirboo North goods at Traralgon at the rear in front of the brake van, pick up passengers at Morwell, the train to Mirboo North would have an altered schedule, passengers would travel to Morwell by the 7.20am passenger ex Melbourne and return by the Gippslander ex Morwell, that passengers would have specially printed tickets (See Reg. Item 1817) and signed by J. C. Crute as Chief Traffic Manager. Issued on 10/4/1974. Printed on foolscap size paper. Ballarat No. 23 was decorated with waxed paper flowers for the centenary of settlement in the Ballarat district in 1938. Tram has female students on board, with a conductor alighting. Newspaper clipping from the letters to the Editor Section of The Courier, Ballarat, dated about 19/8/1971. The first letter, signed by "All Het Up" pleading for the trams to be retained on a limited route serving Sovereign Hill and the Gardens and noting the tourist potential of such a tram line. A Second letter supports the retention of the trams by the BTPS in Wendouree Parade. Letter is unsigned - may not have been cut out properly. Notes the preservation of a street tramway in Montevideo. Has a good association with the final days of the SEC Ballarat system with the operation of the trams for schools (Ballarat North Technical College) and the things that could happen while on tour - 40 derails again.Newspaper clipping from The Courier, Ballarat, dated Thursday 19/8/1971, titled "All aboard". Features two photos of No. 40 and one of another bogie tram during a farewell tour of the Ballarat system the previous day by Ballarat North Technical school students. The lower photo features the school students while the upper photo shows No. 40 derailed near the corner of Sturt and Lydiard Streets with the Town Hall in the background. See Reg items 3765, 3766 for actual prints of the Courier photographs and Reg. item 1073 for another copy of the newspaper clipping. Yields information about special trams that were operated on the system prior to its closure for the benefit of school children.Black and White copy photograph of a newspaper photograph taken by The Courier - photo taken 18/8/1971, published 19/8/1971 of three bogie cars carrying schoolchildren (Ballarat North Technical College) on tour, lower Sturt St. Lead tram is No. 40, with a Eureka Roofing Tiles and SEC roof advertisement. Yields information a tram that was decorated for the 1938 centenary celebrations of the State of Victoria. The hand colour and then photographic reproduction adds to the significance of this print.Colour print of an original black and white photo print that has been hand coloured for reproduction of Ballarat (SEC 1st) No. 23, decorated for the centenary of settlement in the Ballarat district in 1938. Tram has female students on board, with conductor alighting. Shows track brakes on the tramcar. Tram has been coloured with pink and green colours, including the conductors uniform and the trees behind the tram. Passengers have been met at the Wendouree Station where a train has made a special stop.
