The State Electricity Commission of Victoria 1921 to 1993 was responsible for electricity generation in Victoria and the operation of three Provincial Tramways. It had a strong safety focus for the time. This first-aid box would have been provided to work places containing first aid equipment and materials. It has been made with interior slots or dividers to hold items. Demonstrates an SECV First Aid Box.First aid box made from sheet metal, with hinged lid, press locking clamp on the front, with a divided interior or fitting to hold items, painted white on the inside and black on the outside. Has the SEC logo, marked "First Aide" in red letters on a white background and numbered "2787" on the front side.Has SEC logo and number 2787. Yields information about the retirement, appointment or death of well known SEC Ballarat inspectors and office managers and has a strong association with the work and involvement in Ballarat activities.Page of five newspaper clippings from The Courier, pasted to a single foolscap lined page. 1 - "Tramways Officer Farewelled" - 8-9-1950, about the retirement of Mr A. V. Mawby in the Electra Hall, following his appointment at Departmental Tramway Superintendent in Melbourne. Has been with the SEC for 29 years. Gives details of the speakers at the function. 2 - untitled, dated 3-2-1951, about the appointment of Mr,. L.J. Denmead as SEC Branch Tramway Superintendent. Notes he was formally with the MMTB. 3 - "Popular Tramway Inspector Dead" - 10-6-1949 - reporting one the death of Harold Phillip (Freddie) James. Worked for the trams for 41 years, was 61 when he died. Gives an outline of his Ballarat activities. 4 - "Recalls Steam Trams" - 15-3-1946 - about the retirement of Mr. W. K. K. Dunstan, as the local branch office manager for the SEC and his commencement in Bendigo when steam trams were operating. 5 - "Drove First Electric Tram" - undated - Mr. G. A. Laurens who retired from the SEC in August last, after 41 years of service. Drove first tram in Ballarat and Bendigo. Possibly made by local SEC Staff for the refurbished Ballarat Tram depot during the mid 1930's. Note the spelling of Depot with the accent.Demonstrates and provides information to Depot workers and Fire Fighters that the power had to be turned off to the Trolley Wire inside the depot using an emergency circuit breaker and where this equipment was provided before using a fire hose.Set of two wooden signs, with chamfered edges, red background with white painted letters, advising SEC Ballarat Depot workers or Firefighters that the power had to be cut to the Trolley Wire prior to using a fire hose in the depot building. An emergency button was provided in a circuit breaker box for this purpose.
