Signs - set of two Masonite signs - black print on 3mm Masonite sections used for the delivery of equipment to Preston Workshops and the Miller Street shops opposite. Possibly used for the delivery of equipment from overseas suppliers to both workshop locations. This sign was originally fixed to the Administration Building in Lydiard Street South. The Ballarat School of Mines Council Minutes of 19 August 1953 records that the quotation of Claude Neon Signs (Victoria) for five pounds 15 shillings. The Bendigo Ordnance Factory began operating in 1942, producing heavy artillery and naval guns. In the late 1990s the then Federal Government-owned facility was sold to the multinational Thales, which continues to operate the factory today. The Ted Hocking collection of photos were digitized onto two CDs in 2014. As well the Bendigo Historical Society has a collection of glass negatives includes some slides of women working in the munitions factory. Seven slides were included in an album that was prepared for Dr Edith Summerskill who visited Australia in 1944 as part of an Empire Parliamentary Delegation. The album included photographs of Australian women working at the factory during WW2. A copy of the album is in the Collection of the Australian War Memorial.Thirteen photos produced by the Bendigo Munitions Factory, later known as the Ordnance Factory and then the Australian Defense Industries. The three photos show the smaller four wheel type trams that were used on the Footscray routes that closed in March 1962. The bodies were subsequently sold. X1 465 July 1962, X2 679 - March 1963 and X2 680 is now preserved at the TMSV Bylands Tramway Heritage centre.
