Item is part of the BCOF Association collection. Refer Cat No 7625This is a large photo album. The front and rear covers are made from wood. The basic colour is dark brown. On the front cover is painted a picture of Mt. Fuji, a Japanese village, a bridge and a small building on land, a tree and an archway. Colours are white, gold, red and mauve. It also has a very fine layer of reflective material - possible pearl shell. Inside are a large quantity of Aust soldiers in Japan - postwar. There are tourist type photos as well. Tokyo - Kure - Iwakuni. There are coloured postcards amongst the photos. It also has numerous scenes of Japanese civilian life. There are a few unused pages at the end of the album.ww2, japan, bcof

Rae's School was opened on the 22nd April 1861, with 22 students. Mr. John Rae was the Headmaster. By 1919, it was an adjunct of the Violet Street State School.Sepia coloured postcard . Image on front shows twenty-eight male and female students and two young male teachers seated at front. Sign in front of students reads: Central School, Rae's Hill, Form E. 9th February 1919. Students are standing in front of a brick building, with verandah immediately behind them. On back 'Post Card, correspondence and address only'. Kodak printed around space for stamp. Text donated with the photo relates to Sir John Michael Higgins (1862-1937) a metallurgist, government adviser and company director who attended Rae's School, Sandhurst and then Bendigo High School. Image of the intersection of Sturt and Lydiard Streets looking north towards Lydiard St. Photograph shows a horse drawn tram turning from Sturt into Lydiard St North, while another crosses Lydiard St, heading west along the north side of the street. Photo shows the Post Office, the Robert Burns statue, and the large arc lamp in the middle of the intersection. Two copies held. Image is of a horse tram leave the Grenville St. terminus, to travel west bound along the north side of Sturt St. Has many pedestrians in photo and some horse drawn vehicles. Shows the position of the horse tram track in Sturt St., north side, was not up against the south side kerb. Postcard has a Christmas message on the base of it. Yields information about the development of the Ballarat Tramway system through photographs, postcards, assembled by a well known Ballarat Identity - Wal Jack. Brown album marked "Photographs" on the front cover with a tooled vinyl cover, held by brass screws, containing 66 pages (including inside of covers and two blank pages) of paper (black, off white, light green, orange and brown paper) containing some 277 photographs, postcards, including some coloured postcards of Ballarat, including horse trams, ESCo and SEC trams.
