Miss Lillie Louisa (Lil) Willaton, and her callisthenics students in 1930s celebrating during competitions in Ballarat in which they were successful. Lil held weekly classes in Surrey Hills, Box Hill and nearby suburbs for a number of decades. Students include Nancy Scott, Nancy Hayes, Sylvia McGill and Vera Willaton. Lil was born in Long Gully, Bendigo in 1904 daughter of Herbert Charles Leopold Willaton and Lillie Jenkins. She had 3 brothers and 3 sisters, one brother dying in infancy. The family lived in Lille Street, Surrey Hills. Both her parents and one sister died in Surrey Hills. In the 1920s Lil gained her A.L.C.M. (Australian London College of Music) in singing and made a career of teaching gymnastics with calisthenics, rhythmic movement etc. She arranged the music and lyrics for items and also designed the costumes, as well as conducting the physical training which culminated in annual concerts held in Box Hill and other town halls. Lil married Leslie Reginald Stephenson in 1934 and they lived at 36 Union Road, Surrey Hills. She died in July 1995 and is buried in Buried Box Hill Cemetery - CE-126-0001. The monument with time capsule was established by the Shire of Eltham Historical Society to commemorate Victoria’s 150th anniversary and mark the former location of the Eltham Town Centre, which existed along this section of Main Road, then known as Maria Street. The unveiling was conducted 10 November 1985 by Cr. Mary Grant (Shire President). The monument was constructed with a concrete base and the main feature is an old tyring plate or disc. The Time Capsule Ceremony involved lowering the sealed time capsule into place, bolting down its container lid and then concreting over the lid. The capsule contains items relating to present day (1985) Eltham and its people including a video film made by Joh Ebeli and also details of families and organizations who have contributed to construction of the monument. It is to be opened in the year 2035. The Society received an excellent response from local people, firms and organizations by way of assistance with this project. Graham Beyer, who originated the project, arranged many of the donations. He and his firm, Package Handling Equipment, donated the time capsule itself and carried out fabrication of sections of the monument. The design of the monument was adapted by Graham Beyer from drawings by Joh Ebeli. Charmac Industries donated the container for the time capsule and a cast gun metal name plate for the monument. BMG Concrete donated concrete for the base which was constructed by Caridi Construction Company. Northbourne Garden Supplies donated materials for the paving around the monument. Robert Becker from Eltham Apex directed construction of the paving by Society members. Terry Hutchinson donated the use of his crane to lift the tyring disc into place. Financial contributions were also made by the Eltham Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary Club of Eltham. In 1987 in commemoration of the Society’s 20th Anniversary, Joh Ebeli suggested the commissioning of a plaque to be added which explains the functions of the various items used in the Society’s Victorian 150th Anniversary Monument and this was unveiled by its designer, Joh Ebeli, on October 10, 1987. Circa 2010-2012 the monument was damaged through vandalism. The mounts for the ring had been broken. Open Monument is a contemporary artwork acknowledging the history of Chinese people in Ballarat. The Chinese diaspora was global and many Chinese people came to Ballarat and the Victorian Goldfields. The work details some of the personal Chinese family memories of Ballarat from the goldrush forward. The 33 marble laser-etched panels include found images and texts mounted on a modernist metal architectural feature holding back a grassed hill landscape. The Claxton monument in front of the Fernery in the Ballarat Botanical Gardens was made to honour a respected citizen and was erected after his death due to public subscription. F.M. Historical significance in 1948 from Libya and Triopoli after WW11.Remembrance book dated 1948 containing a church service in honour of WW1 and WWII veterans. Front cover has written, Remembrance Sunday 1948, of those who died in the wars 1914 - 1918 and 1939 -1945. Underneath is the in inscription CYRENAICA DISTRICT, (Libya and Tripoli) with a picture of a monument.

Following the Great War of 1914-18 the people who lived in the general area around Coonooer Bridge , (18 kms from St.Arnaud ) erected a Monument in honour of those men and women who served their country in a time of war. In 1920 the monument was erected across from the hall, situated in a small pine plantation which was also planted by community members. The names of those that served their country during war time were placed on the monument. After the 2nd World War the names of the local men and women who once again were asked to serve their country were added to the memorial to honour and remember the sacrifice that they made.This book was compiled to honour and enable families and future generations to remember those who served.This is the only book listing these servicemen that served from the Coonooer Bridge Area.Spiral plastic bound book.Clear perspex cover.
