After her mother and brother died, Mary lived with her uncle, John Kruse. They realised that her mother Wilhelmina had wrongly given the cottage to Louise Schwerkolt, which was not in accordance with August Schwerkolt's will. In 1909, when Mary was 22, she and her uncle set sail on Seydlitz for Melbourne in order to gain title to her inheritance. Donated by Professor F.J. Browne's widow, Dr Grace Cuthbert Browne. This clock used to be in the President's room, but stopped working in 1992.Art Deco mantlepiece clock that belonged to F.J. Browne. Attached brass plate reads "To Professor F.J. Browne /In Remembrance of many kindnesses/ Christmas 1934/ J.G.M"' Clock has an electric lead, but there is a 'not working'l tied to lead.

The Schwerkolt Cottage Museum was opened on the 20th November 1977. Since this photo was taken, an Archival Annexe has been added. This smokehouse, erected in 1975, was built using stone from the Mullen Mullum Creek by stone mason Ray Williams, based on a photograph of a smokehouse in America.
