Pender Bros began in 1892 in Maitland New South Wales who supplied beekeeping supplies to the local beekeepers and later to beekeepers Australia wide. In the early 1970s was the largest factory in the southern hemisphere. In the late 1970s Pender Bros sold the beekeeping business in the late 1970s to the workers of Pender Bros and the name changed to Pender Beekeeping. The business moved to Rutherford New South Wales. The business was sold and changed to Pender Beegoods around 1989. In late 2002 it changed hands again to Pender Beekeeping Supplies and moved to Cardiff, Lake Macquarie New South Wales.Metal cylinder with hinged lid with spout on top. These carpentry items were owned and used by Archibald (Mick) Blackley, a local long-time resident of Numurkah. Born 1912 in Numurkah, Mick was the son of Archibald (Senior) and Grace Blackley, also residents of Numurkah. Archie Senior was a carter, horse-breaker, conducted a livery stable and worked at Brown Corke & Co for a number of years. Archie also served in the Veterinary Corps in WW1. Some of the tools donated belonged to Archie Senior eg wooden hand planes. Mick Blackley used his dad’s tools (and also added some of his own) when he worked in various carpentry jobs during the 1930’s and 1940’s. One particular carpentry job was during the depression when Mick relocated to the Wonthaggi State Coal Mines building stables for the horses, and also completing some building works inside the mines. Returning to Numurkah, Mick joined a Mr Murray as carpenter and painter to build and repair houses. He then joined another builder for 4 years (We think this was Jim Tuttle). Mick then went on to work at the Butter Factory (originally called Holdenson & Nielsen) where some of his carpentry skills were still used. Flashlights where a vital tool for night time map reading, signaling with coloured lenses and many other uses. The blackout during the war also meant for a extended popularity of flashlights. Many carried them onto the streets to see as the streetlights where very rare and to top that of mostly blacked out. Most flashlights where fitted with blinds or coloured lenses to hide the bright light they produced. These coloured lenses where also used to signal between individual soldiers. By 1904 Mr E R McMartin was the manager and licensee of the Shamrock Hotel including the Shamrock Tobacconist that had previously been owned and run by Mr Karl Van Damme.Dark brown pipe cover in shape of pipe, leather exterior and textured cream fabric interior, with hinge at smoke exit end of pipe and small metal latch at bottom of pipe tube. Red sticker on inside of cover reads "Shamrock tobacco Store E.R. McMartir Bendigo" in black ink Pipe made of plastic mouthpiece joined halfway along tube to wooden tube and smoke outlet by a fancy metal (Hallmarked as silver in Chester, England 1912)surround.
