Specimen Cottage in Hargreaves Street Bendigo was built by stonemason James Brierley in 1856. He purchased the land at the first land sales in 1854. It is possibly the earliest building still standing in Bendigo. One page typewritten document. Eaglehawk Masonic Temple celebrates its centenary. The centenary will be celebrated on Saturday 20th, October 1973, when the temple will be re-dedicated by the Grand master of Victoria, His Honour judge Harris. Newspaper article and typed copy of same, detailing the fatal accident that occurred at the mine on the 22nd January 1953, in which Herbert Hunter of Kangaroo Flat was killed. ' Hunter was working at No 16 level at a depth of 1270 feet from the surface and about 500 feet south from the shaft when a large piece of stone , estimated to wrigh about one ton, broke away. Colour photograph of bluestone fireplace erected at Barnadown to commemorate the camp site of the Burke and Wills expedition.The stone fireplace is a memorial to the Burke and Wills Expedition which camped near here. It was erected by the Waranga Shire Council to commemorate the centenary of the Victorian Exploring Expedition`s passage through the Barnadown district in 1860. A plaque on the structure reads: 'Burke and Wills Centenary. The party camped near this spot on 28th August 1860 on its outward journey. Railways collection -photo of a sketch of 'Jackson Creek Viaduct Opening (Courtesy ARHS Vic Division Inc.)'. The Jackson Creek Viaduct is a bridge about 24 miles from Melbourne and is 80 feet high being constructed of Footscray Bluestone piers and abutments and wrought iron girders. The girders were made in England and delivered to the colony by the time the the piers were ready to receive them.
