Photograph taken in the Celia Little Room at Mission to Seafarers Melbourne. The Celia Little Room was named in honour of the aunt of one of the serving (and resident) chaplains. The room is a multi-function room, being used at times for banquets or, as the photograph shows, for relaxation, by visiting seafarers. The magazine read by the man on the right is the International version of the Life magazine published dated from 24 November 1958, with actress Kim Novak holding a black cat on cover. This photograph was published in the Port of Melbourne Quarterly (July-September 1959) held in the Mission's archives. Two scenes, Westertoren and Montelbaanstoren are found on the sides of the body of the coffee pot. Scenes of Amsterdam are also seen on the other items. Two plates for serving biscuits or cakes both also with Amsterdam scenes complete the set. The edges of these are curved slightly upwards.Item 5140(v) has the words "Nieuwmarket met Waag" (Newmarket with Weighing House); the inscription on 5140(w) reads: "Waterlooplein", (Waterloo Square). The Percy Uebergang family lived at Tooram Park, Allansford from 1912 until 1992. Percy and Myrtle Uebergang's children were twins, Ray and Joyce born in 1926 who lived at Tooram Park until their deaths, Ray in 1986 and Joyce in 1992. Neither Ray nor Joyce married and following the death of her brother Joyce set up the Ray and Joyce Uebergang Foundation which supports the local community. This laminated copy of an advertisement promotes an Easter Monday picnic to be held at G. Eason's Farm in aid of the Ballarat Orphan Asylum. The original poster is undated. The farm was located at what was then known as Scot's March, later called Scotsburn, located a few kilometres southeast of Buninyong. The event promised a wide array of food, tea, coffee, games, sports and ended up with a Grand Ball. Laminated copy of an undated advertisement for a Grand Easter Picnic to be held at Eason's Farm, Scot's March, near Buninyong. Proceeds were to go to the Ballarat Orphan Asylum. Scot's Marsh is an earlier name for Scotsburn. The Hotel Mansions was formerly the Grand Ozone Coffee Palace, erected in 1890 at a cost of around ten thousand pounds at the corner of Kepler and Koroit Streets by a group of local businessmen and leased out. Within 12 months of construction, it was granted a wine licence and was renamed the Ozone Hotel. Coffee Palaces were temperance hotels which were popular in the latter part of the 19th century. They offered recreation and superior accommodation. The Ozone Hotel operated until 1915 and was then closed before re-opening in 1920 as the Hotel Mansions. It had major renovations including a large theatre area. February 23rd 1929 saw the most spectacular fire in Warrnambool's history when the Hotel Mansions was burnt to the ground. Evelyn O'Brien was granted a temporary licence and in September 1930 she was given permission to rebuild. The new hotel, named Hotel Warrnambool was opened in March 1931. In 1879, James Griffiths established one of Australia’s first tea and coffee distribution companies at 30 Flinders St, Melbourne, which is now, occupied by the boutique Lindrum Hotel. Established with his brother John, recent immigrants from England, Griffiths occupied the highest position in the commercial world during their many years as distributors of tea, coffee, cocoa and other products throughout Victoria and Australia. The Griffiths brand was a guarantee for quality of product and service as it still is today. This extensive service was provided to customers via horse drawn carts serviced by rail from Melbourne. As a spirited entrepreneur, Griffiths made his company a household name through his pioneering use of outdoor advertising by installing the infamous blue and white enamel “Griffiths Tea” promotional signs affixed to the railway boundary fences highlighting to travellers the distance to or from Melbourne, indicating so many “— miles to Griffiths Tea”. These signs, much sought after today, were well known through out the eastern states. Photographs have been published of a sign erected by a Digger in France during the First World War with the words “1100 miles to Griffiths Bros”. Tragically, James and his wife Emily with friends died in a level rail crossing accident at Bayswater in 1925. The Upper Kiewa Valley Lions Club has served the Kiewa Valley for 50 years - raising money for the community. Its biggest success was the 'Snack Bar', a food outlet at Falls Creek, selling hot pies and coffee. From 1964 in a caravan, to 1965 - 1971 in a bus the snack bar operated, until it was sold in 1989. Miss Olive Codling was a Foundation Member and a Life Member of the Wodonga Historical Society. Many of her prize-winning photos are held in the Society Collection. She also held a range of roles and committee positions in a wide range of Wodonga community organisations.
