Fairfield Vineyard was established by George Morris in 1859. Owen Loftus and his mother lived in this house in the 1930's. Owen was a postman and also ran a taxi service.He died in the second World War and is remembered in the memorial window at Christ Church, Mitcham. Present owners (1998) are Anna and Gorden Seward. The previous owners were the Rev and Mrs Barnsley, a retired Church of England vicar. Eric Roger Webb moved to Mitcham with his family in about 1932. They lived at 443 Mitcham Road and owned all the land up to Simpson Street. The land was a grass paddock and he planted native trees and shrubs around the perimeter. The Webbs has three children: Eric, Dean and Donald. Mr Webb worked in the public service. He was a councillor of the Shire of Blackburn and Mitcham and later of the city of Nunawading between 1940 and 1949. Before it was demolished for larger commercial development, the property was a medical centre and later an employment and training office. In 1900 this shop was a stationer's and newsagency owned by George Smith. It was then owned by Annie Nicholls (afterwards Annie Brown), and later by Ruby and John Sandow. Their daughter Kitty married Reg Jennings and the shop became known as "Jennings' Milk Bar". The shop evolved into a grocery/general store/confectioners. This is a photograph of one of the many stone ruins of buildings which can be seen in the Sunbury district and surrounding areas. This series of 13 photographs show various views of one of the remaining uninhabited stone cottages which were built in the early days of the district's settlement.A coloured photograph of a stone cottage with a wooden shingle roof and the remains of the outbuilding.
