Newspaper clipping titled: “Tram burns after collision with truck” – The Age 5/9/70 “Quite heroes drag driver from flames” by Robert Parsonage Tram and semi-trailer crash in Thornbury, Route # 9A, driver Bill Armitage suffered a broken right leg and arm and severe burns to most of his body, in critical condition in Preston and Northcote Community Hospital. Semi-trailer driver, Brian Carroll, 25 received burns and is in serious condition in hospital. Conductor Ted Clark, about 35, not injured and helped only passenger, and elderly woman from the tram. Page 6 - article titled "Commuter fare blitz" - about proposed checking of Metcards, but there were many complaints and issues with machines not working and legal challenges. Photocopy of an article that appeared in The Age, Thursday 25 November 1993, written by Michael Leunig about the tram he painted - No. 816 - in 1986. Tells the story of the painting, notes the wooden tram bridge over the Maribyrnong River Bridge (including a cartoon of a tram on the bridge) and his feelings for W class trams. Produced as a gift recording service to the MMTB Board as a Member - presented to Cr. Burnett Gray. Stamped at either end of the object with his name and "MMTB Member" Vic. Parliamentary Website gives details of Cr. Gray, Vic MP - though does not list being a MMTB Board Member. MP for St Kilda 1927 to 1932, Cr for St Kilda 1920 to 1948 - see http://www.parliament.vic.gov.au/re-member/details/1103-gray-alfred-charles-burnett. MMTB Annual Reports: Appointed 1936 (first appearance), until 1954, when the size of the Board was reduced - Order in Council 25/5/1954. The Annual Report for 1936 has a photo of all the Board Members and a listing. See images 1887i2 and i3.
