Similar to Willett's placenta praevia forceps [see Down Bros Catalogue of Surgical Instruments and Appliances, c1930, p 940]. John Abernethy Willett (1872 -1932) modified an existing pair of surgical scalp forceps for use in bringing down the head of a foetus in the case of placenta praevia. As the safety of c-sections increased and fetal viability became a dominant consideration, these were used only for the dead/pre-viable foetus. (Source: Baskett, Thomas. Carl Rudolph Braun (1823-1891) was the inventor of this instrument, as well as a type of decapitation hook. Braun was born and practiced in Austria, and followed Semmelweis as assistant to Klein at the Vienna Maternity Clinic in 1847, before becoming its head in 1856. Braud added a gynaecology section to the clinic in 1858, being convinced that obstetrics and gynaecology should be together. (Source: Baskett, Thomas. Embryotomy is a destructive procedure whereby a fetus is dismembered to facilitate removal from the uterus when delivery is obstructed or impossible. It carries a risk of trauma (such as uterine rupture or vaginal/cervical injury) but aims to reduce the risks of mortality and impaired function to the patient. The Ithacan Philanthropic Society, 'The Ulysses' celebrated its 80th Anniversary at the Debutante Ball on Saturday 21 September 1996 at the Carlton Crest Hotel Grand Waldorf Ballroom. Much loved Ithacan actress Irini Papas was MC for the evening and guest of honour was the Consul of Greece, Mr. George Veis. Dance instructor and coordinator of the debutante group was Olga Black who worked with the fourteen debutantes and their escorts and the young flower girl to prepare for the memorable night. Pictured (above left) are debutantes Faye Baker and Angela Thomas. For the Ithacan Philanthropic Society to endure as an active organisation for eighty years was a memorable achievement. Debutante balls was an Anglo tradition that was taken up by the Ithacan Philanthropic Society and were particularly popular in the period 1940 - 1960. There was a resurgence in popularity in the 1980s - 2000. A black and white newspaper photograph of five debutants and one flower girl on the dance floor. The photograph has been backed onto white cardboard and laminated. The photograph is one of a pair which was published in the 'Neos Kosmos' newspaper.

Gran Wearne was born in Cornwall and married a miner, Thomas Wearne. They migrated to Bendigo And has six children of which three survived. She lost her husband and had to rely on charity to maintain her family. She earned a little money by selling goat's milk. She died in 1936 and was the last person who spoke English with a Cornish dialect. Also contains some information about William 'Clubs" Wearne, her son, who also became a miner. The World War One Memorial Stained glass windows in the Barkly Street Uniting Church resulted from a request made in 1919 by the Barkly Street Young Men's Club to be given permission to raise money to pay for the project. The window was designed by Fisher Co. Pty Ltd, and was unveiled by a former army chaplain - either Rev. J.A. Gaunt or Rev. Bladen on the 14th March 1920. The total cost of the windows was 171 pounds 10 shillings. a. Book with a mottled blue-grey cover with brown leather spine and extends 5.5 cm to front and back. Corner edges also had the leather, two are missing and the other two are dilapidated. A red stuck on tape near the top of the spine had Ledger printed with some gold edging, most of which is worn off. Inside the front and back covers is a red, blue and white marble pattern. Front and back covers have been reinforced with white tape. 542 page Ledger Book for a general produce merchant. Probably Albert Bush. Alphabetical index at front. Entries in black ink on all pages and date from 1888 to 1920. Loose 4 page foolscap inside front cover listing Rolling Stock and Value. b. A pocket in the back of the book contains 6 pieces of paper relating to business and finance. Items include Discounts and Commission from 1888 to 1899, a note on insurance, a note dated June 2/90 headed Mr A Bush Sandhurst Dr to S A Bush & Co listing monthly amounts of money from Jan 1890 and 1889. Some amounts are with the name G P Reddie.Another one is a Building A/C dated 1889. Another is a balance sheet written on a page with another one written on the back and dated 1893. One written on paper headed Bush's Stores, Main Street, Bairnsdale and printed S.A.Bush & Co. It looks like a list of repayments listed in 8 bills. The other side of the page refers to Bill of Sales for Yeates & Baker and Bill of Sales held by the Bank of New South Wales. There is also a copy of two letters addressed to A Bush, one dated Oct 17.06 from H Hopkins referring to the late Mr Baker's property in Sale.
