Letter - Report, Wool Classing Clip Report, 1965-1966
The National Wool Museum accepted a donation from Brian Licence in 2022 of several mementoes relating to his career in the wool industry. Brian studied Wool Classing and worked for a decade in this profession before moving to Melbourne which required him to change careers. These Wool Classing Clip Reports date from 1965 to 1966, there are 7 total. The reports give feedback to the wool classer about their clips recently classed. They include some suggestions as to how a wool classer may improve their performance, and how a wool grower may be able to increase profits from their flock.8 sheets of paper, slightly under a4 size at 260 x 205 mm. 4 sheets have a header from Elder Smith Goldsbrough Mort Limited, 2 from Bennett & Fisher Limited, and 1 from Roberts, Stewart & Company Limited. All Wool Classing Clip Reports have the same structure, a header from the sending company, a body paragraph of black ink from a typewriter, concluding with a signature at the bottom of the page. Some of the pages have yellowed with age, others have slight tears. Report 1 is by Elder Smith Goldsbrough Mort Limited. It is dated 4th March, 1965. Report 2 is by Bennett & Fisher Limited. It is dated 7th October, 1965. Report 3 is by Bennett & Fisher Limited. It is dated 11th July, 1966. Report 4 is by Roberts, Stewart & Company Limited. It is dated 12th July, 1965. Report 5 is by Elder Smith Goldsbrough Mort Limited. It is dated 9th November, 1965. Report 6 is by Elder Smith Goldsbrough Mort Limited. It is dated 5th July, 1965. Report 7 is by Elder Smith Goldsbrough Mort Limited. It is dated 26th October, 1965.Multiple. See Multimediawool classing -

Textile - Harpers Star Avena Brand Rolled Oats Bag
These domestic kitchen bags were donated to the National Wool Museum by Lila Gore. Lila donated Children’s Clothing (RGE 8324) to the museum in 2022 and at her time of donating, inquired as to whether the museum would also be interested in these bags she had been collecting. Lila said there was no reason as to why she was saving the bags, other than she liked the art works and thought they were too good to end up in landfill. She had thought perhaps she would make something out of the bags, or perhaps give the bags to a friend to make something. When Lila was donating the Children’s Clothing to the museum, she thought that the National Wool Museum would be the perfect home for the bags. Domestic kitchen bags such as these date from the late 19th century through the mid-20th century. They were used at home, usually by women, containing household items which would not spoil, such as flour, sugar, animal feed, seeds, and other commodities. In modern times a trip to the supermarket is a daily chore, in the past however, these trips happened far less often, with big sacks such as these a large reason why. In the rural US and Canada, Feed sack dresses and Flour sack dresses, were an iconic part of rural life from the 1920s through the Great Depression, World War II, and post-World War II years. Australia also reused these sacks, typically for making wagga style blankets, but re-use for clothing was not unusual.Calico oat bag with graphic blue and yellow image and text on front. Windcheater which the midwives in old E1 had made and were sold to staff to fund raise. Some proceeds were to assist midwives attend state conferences. Other fundraising activities were also undertaken at that time to modify the stark hospital environment of E1 to a more homely environment. Graphic artist and seamstress, Geraldine Roberts of Wendouree, made the windcheaters as well as screen printed the logo which the staff designed. Geraldine also did the graphics for an educational booklet the staff produced for expectant parents. These activities were initiated by the enthusiastic staff of E1 during the early to mid 1980s."Midwifery Team, BBH, We Deliver"midwifery, 1980s, windcheater, logo, courier, new, director of nursing, broad, 1995 -
