The Peninsula School's first building was located down at the local village in Mt Eliza from 1960 to early 1961. As there were no school buildings established, the office was a way to promote the new school and speak with potential families and communities about the school. Although opened by the Church of England in 1857, Huntly was not recognised as beginning until 1860 when it began to receive government funding. In 1862 it became known as a Common School. In the 1870's it was partly destroyed in a wind storm and a brick building was built to replace it. Herbert Leslie (Les) COBURN (1891-1956) Australia This work was commissioned by the SMB Council to hang in its chambers. It envisions the new Junior Technical School building and was illustrated in the same year the Ballarat Technical Art School building officially opened. Les Coburn was a student at the Art School between 1908 and 1916. Coburn and his business partner, Percival Selwyn Richards (1865-1952), became joint instructors in architecture and building construction at the school from 1920, with Coburn continuing until 1948. The Ballarat Technical Art School was a division of the Ballarat School of Mines. A custom built building was opened in 1915. This plaque recognises the Wycheproof servicemen from State School No1757 who served in the 1914-1919 War. The Ballarat School of MInes Time Capsule should have been opened in 2020 for the 150th anniversary since the establishment of the Ballarat School of Mines, but due to the Covid 19 pandemic and the associated lockdowns it was not opened untll 2022.
