Robert Ulmann who was born in Switzerland, came to the Western District in the 1970’s and was well known in the district for his paintings of wildlife. He also has some sculptural pieces around Warrnambool. He died suddenly in 1999. The big Hayshed was built by J. D. McHaffie on his property at Ventnor. He used timber washed up by the sea and roofing iron from the dome of the Exhibition Building in London.
