John Thomas O'Bree enlisted in 20th reinforcements 22nd Batt AIF on 4.7.16. As a Stretcher Bearer he was awarded a "Military Medal on 4.10.18 during an attack at Estrees east of Peronne. He worked without rest for 24 hours bringing out wounded lying helpless under concentrated shell fire and machine guns. Hospitalised on 20.10.18 with Influenza. Discharged from the AIF on 27.10.19. Catherine Ritchie House was opened on 19th December 1991 at 10 Glamis street, Mount Martha for the use of Presbyterian Deaconesses. Catherine Ritchie was the Principal of Rolland House, the Presbyterian Deaconess and Missionary Training Institute at 97 Rathdown street, South Melbourne. Catherine Ritchie was Principal at Rolland House from 1945 - 1968. Deaconess Blanche Boyd was the Principal of the Presbyterian Deaconess and Missionary Training College from 1914 to 1923, she died in 1944. Deaconess Greve was known as both Winnie and Minnie. Book presented to the Museum from Tatura RSL showing the work that went into creating the Tatura Water Tower Mural. The Water tower on the north side, depict a full size picture of Sir John Monash in uniform. The south side of the tower depicts a thread of poppies. Sir John was the engineer who designed the water tower which was opened in 1912. A letter from Tatura RSL is in the book.White hard covered book. Front has two pictures of a water tower. Slate pencils were used extensively in primary schools throughout The Netherlands.These pencils may have belonged to a child who attended school either towards the end of or post WWII when there was a scarcity of paper and books. Rectangular light green cardboard container which slides open to reveal 7 slate pencils. The lid is busily illustrated with scenes of English Victories on Sea and Land including Trafalgar and Waterloo. The upper halves of the slate pencils are covered in paper decorated with various designs.In the left margin of the picture are the words: "Designed in England". Underneath the Trafalgar scene is the quotation: "England expects that every man this day will do his duty." Under the Waterloo scene is the quotation: "Up Guards and at them!" In the right margin are the words: Copyright ENT * STAT HALL. GES.GESCHUTZT. These medals were awarded to Pte Fincher 3750, who was born in Malmsbury and enlisted for service overseas on the 3 August, 1915, aged 23 years. He embarked aboard the CERAMIC and served with the 14 Bn in France where he was twice wounded.
