The Hawker Hurricane is a British single-seat fighter aircraft of the 1930s–40s that was designed and predominantly built by Hawker Aircraft Ltd. for service with the Royal Air Force. Due to its lightweight, yet robust, construction and ease of maintenance, the Hurricane had a long operational life in many theatres of war. It was also built by, or exported to, several other countries.. The donor's maternal great-grandfather, Evan Rees, was born in Llangendeirne, Wales in 1862 and emigrated to Australia in 1887. This postcard appears to be circa 1900s from the clothes worn by the children. The donor believes this postcard belonged to her father's mother, Maggie Johnston Rees (1867-1964). These and other postcards and photos came from the estate of David Moyle (1938-2015) who was a police officer in Emerald during late 1960s-early 1970s, and subsequently at Belgrave in the early 1980s. David Moyle was closely associated with the now defunct Sherbrooke Historical Association.This postcard is significant because it was part of a collection belonging to a community member who had a close association with a local historical society.A group of children standing for a photographer in a street in a village. It is likely that this object belonged to Dr Giles.Chevalier Jackson medium size steel made laryngoscope. Hexagonal shape design on handle and arm blade with a thumb support at the handle angle, missing the bulb light and all the system to support it. Deep scratches over the top and under blade with presence of dust marks over the handle, arm and inside the blade canal. Also has a grey paint mark over the top blade area. Mongan's Bridge opened on 1st March 1902. By 1906 there were 20 students. In 1907 the school worked half time with Upper Gundowring School. It continued to struggle with numbers until it became full time in January 1919, closed in September in 1923. It reopened in 1932 closed 1940, reopened in 1943 and closed 1964. Ref. The school struggled to stay open due to the number of enrolments, and at one stage, due to the condition of the building. The Northern District School of Nursing opened in 1950 in to address the issues around nurse recruitment, training and education that had previously been hospital based. The residential school was to provide theoretical and in-house education and practical training over three years. The students would also receive practical hands-on training in the wards of associated hospitals. The Northern District School of Nursing operated from Lister House, Rowan Street, Bendigo. This school case was the type of case carried to school by thousands of children growing up in the early to mid 1900's. Mt Beauty township was sold in the 1960's after the State Electric Commission of Victoria had finished the construction of the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme. The sale of Mt Beauty township signified the end of construction of the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme and the beginning of Mt Beauty under the Bright Shire (now Alpine Shire).
