A light grey cloth covered book titled Velveteens. A Norfolk Story by Edward Gilliat, M.A., Assistant Master in Harrow School. Illustrated by F. Barnard. The title is printed in yellow decorative lettering at the top of the front cover with a brown illustration of a man hunting with a rifle and dogs. The author's name is at the bottom in brown lettering. Inside is a Bookplate. Opposite the title page is a frontispiece black and white illustration for P.33, titled "Dead? Who's dead?" asked the squire. Publishing details are noted on the title page which has a faded tissue paper page. There is a Contents page, listing XXX chapters. Each chapter has at the top of the page a decorative nature illustration inside a rectangular box. P.125 has another black and white full page illustration. 250 Pp. Set of 4 run number plates used at North Fitzroy Tram/bus and Footscray depot - plastic sheets off white or cream painted with the letter N of F (to indicate the depot) and a number to indicate the run number. Would have been used on buses as well. Letters in either red or black, some plates have a single hole in the top. Used to identify the depot and "run number" or timetable that the tram was running on, two in each tram, to enable monitoring by inspectors and crews. Question - were these used on Z class trams prior to the introduction the AVM system rather than metal run numbers. Ferdinand Von Mueller came to Australia at the age of 22 arriving 15/12/1847 with his two sisters in Adelaide. He started work as an assistant chemist and in his spare time investigated the local vegetation. In 1852 he moved to Melbourne. From 1853 - 1896 when he died, he was the Victorian Government Botanist and Director of the Melbourne Botanic Gardens. He went on a series of expeditions to parts of Victoria including Mount Buffalo and Wilson's Promontory. He travelled all over Australia in various expiditions. In 1863 he was engaged to Euphemia Henderson for 6 months. Euphemia was a wildflower artist and painted bunches of flowers for Mueller. They allocated specimens at Phillip Island (1863) - one named Nematolepis euphemiae F Muell was named for her. Euphemia's sister was Gergianna who married John David McHaffie of Phillip Island. Euphemia lived with the McHaffies on Phillip Island.
