Rev Alec Pederick (1902 - 1972). Trained at Queen's College. Commenced his ministry at Zeehan, Tasmania in 1927. In 1929 he went to Rabaul P.N.G. and to Piniqidu in 1931. Returning to Australia in 1933 was appointed to Beaufort Circuit and then to the Methodist Home Missions Department. Served as a Chaplain in the A.I.F 1942 - 1944. After discharge from the army Rev. Pederick resumed working with Home Missions, becoming General Superintendent and residing at “Otira”, the Home Mission Training College in Kew, at which he was also principal. Rev Ira Menear (1901 - 1977). Born at Kapunda. Worked at the Kimba and Pt Neill mission stations on the west coast of South Australia before studying at the Brighton Training College and Adelaide University. Graduated B.A. Adelaide University 1928. After completing his theological training he was appointed to the Norwood Circuit before being appointed to take charge of the Methodist Inland Mission at Cloncurry. Minister at Crow's Nest, Gympie & Rockhampton 1936 - 1940. In 1940 he was accepted as a pilot officer in the RAAF, having been given leave of absence by the Methodist Conference. Menear enlisted RAAF air crew but was later transferred to the administrative staff. He rose from A.C.1 to the rank of Acting Wing Commander. He served in many parts of Australia, including the Darwin area. After the war Rev Menear took charge of the Commonwealth Rehabilitation Centre at Mount Osmond and later Mount Breckan, Victoria Harbour Rehabilitation Centre. Rev. William P. Wells (1826 - 1895) Born Marton, Lincolnshire 1826. Probationer of the English Methodist Conference 1850. Appointed to a mission circuit in Newfoundland. Returned to England in 1852. Sent to Melbourne in 1854. President of the South Australian Conference and later President of the Victorian Conference. President of Prince Alfred College, South Australia. Started the Methodist Building and Loans Fund. Codified Methodist laws and regulations. Served as minister in Castlemaine, Melbourne West, Melbourne East, Geelong, St. Kilda, Sandhurst, Hawthorn. Rev. Peter Thompson (1847 - 1909) was Superintendent of the East End Wesleyan Mission. Entered the Wesleyan ministry in 1871. Died 1909. The second son of a Lancashire farmer, Peter grew up in a tee-total Methodist household with a rather austere father and a saintly mother. He trained at Didsbury Wesleyan College where he was, by all accounts, a brilliant student. He was stationed in Ulverston and then Huddersfield (by 1876). By 1881 Peter had married and was Minister at Wood Green. He and his wife, Mary, do not appear to have had any children. They spent some years in Redhill and then, following the decision of Conference in 1885 to establish the London Wesleyan Methodist Mission, Peter was sent to the East End of London to take charge of the almost defunct St George’s Wesleyan Chapel. His work as a slum missionary was so successful that soon larger premises were required. In addition the mission took over a ‘most undesirable’ public house (The White Swan on Ratcliffe Highway) and later, in 1891, the Mahogany Bar. In 1898 he was interviewed by Charles Booth as part of Booth’s survey of London. Peter died after a long illness in 1909 having served 24 years in East London, one of the best known and loved Wesleyan ministers of his time. Ernest Francis William Swan (1887 - 1981). Born Clifton Hill 1887. Educated at Wesley College and Queen's College at the University of Melbourne, where he was awarded an M.A. and B.D. Ordained into the Methodist Church in 1916.He served at Beechworth, Woomeland and Nhill before being appointed minister of the Piedmont Community Church in California in 1926. Whilst in the U.S. he graduated Th.D. at the Berkley Pacific School of Religion. In 1937 he returned to Australia as minister to Henley Beach S.A. Congregational Church. Rev William Butters (1810 - 1887). Born Hibbaldstone, Lincolnshire on 24 January 1810. Entered the Wesleyan ministry in 1833 and sent as a missionary to Van Dieman's Land. Worked with convicts at Port Arthur, then served at Hobart, Ross and Launceston. In 1850 he was appointed to Melbourne. His health failed during the unprecedented difficulties initiated by the discovery of gold in 1851. Appointed to Adelaide 1855 - 1862. returned to Victoria in 1862, but his health broke down completely and he returned to England in 1863 and became a supernumerary. A founder of the Wesleyan Mission Carlton. President of the Australasian Conference in 1858. Rev. Thomas Staines Brittingham Woodfull (1863 - 1941). Born Maldon in 1863, but grew up in Prahran and attended the Punt Rd Church. Qualified as a pharmacist. Worked as a local preacher before being ordained in 1887. Appointed to Sandhurst in 1887 before being sent as Conference Evangelist to Tasmania, where he conducted missions. Married Gertrude Lily Abey (1872 - 1941) in 1891. Returned to Victoria in 1893 and served at Kerang, Maldon, Shepparton, Flemington & Essendon, Collingwood, Bendigo, Albert Park, Brunswick, Box Hill.
