Tram has the destination of Lydiard St. North and two roof advertisements for the SEC "Everything's under control in my all electric kitchen" on either side of the tram. 2427.1 - Photo of tram about to use the crossover with St. Patricks Cathedral in the background. 2427.2 - as above, but with tram on crossover. Bottom right hand corner appears to have a sleeve from someone else in the photograph. 2427.3 - after tram has completed the use of the crossover and continuing along Sturt St. to the City terminus. Photo has end of film marks on the right hand edge. Note H.P. Functional Object - Point Bar, State Electricity Commission of Victoria (SECV), 1960's

Ballarat Tramway Museum South Gardens Reserve Wendouree ...Length of 5/8ths of inch or approx. 15.5mm diameter steel bar, which has been heated and formed at one end to give an eye approx. 32mm internal diameter and hammered and ground to form a point edge at the opposite end forming a point bar. Used by Ballarat Tram crews to change tram track points. Standard equipment to all tramcars (two each). This particular point bar was reportedly located at the Lydiard St. and Sturt St. intersection for use by inspectors and other tram crew to change the points at this intersection without obtaining a point bar from the tramcar itself. Taken by a Brisbane Tramway Museum Society member at the time of closure. The point bar was repainted by the BTMS in the green colour scheme prior to presentation to the BTPS/BTM during the 1992 COTMA Perth Conference to Carolyn Dean. Titled "Sturt St Ballarat" in the top left-hand corner. Has three ESCo trams in the image, at the east end of Sturt St. In the bottom left-hand corner is the number "300477" and the initials "JV" within a circle. A 2d Australian stamp, cancelled with the postmark "Burnie Tas 21Ap 34" is in the top centre of the postcard. Image taken early in the days of the Ballarat electric trams, with no windows and no rooftop destinations. Appears to be the same tram possibly three times - looking at the number on the tram in detail. On the rear of the postcard is the address to a "Mme Helen Ferrando, Sori, Genova Italy" in black handwritten ink, while in the left-hand half of the postcard, typed in light purple ink is "Arthur H. Rubock, 23 Wilmot St., Burnie, Tasmania USCE 23897" (could be US Corps of Engineers) and the postmark of "Sori Genova. / 28.5.34". The printer of the card is "The Valentine & Sons Publishing Co. Ltd, Melbourne and Sydney" 2433.1 - Digital image of the same postcard from the Wal Jack album of Ballarat Photos - 5100-7-C, scanned as images .3 and .4 and high-resolution scans. On the rear in ink "Ballarat about 1912" and "Old type trams" 2433.2 - Card from Wal Jack to Ken Magor - see image 6 for a scan of the rear. Wal notes that the front of the cars have been outlined incorrectly. Yields information the buildings, buildings and scene at the intersection from Grenville and Sturt Sts looking west with three trams.Postcard - divided back, used with postage stamp on front. Car featured in photo is No. 17. Note on the position of the rear lifeguard area of the tram is the word "Summerscales". The service was terminated at this point for some 6 weeks while Wendouree Parade was resurfaced and other track work done. Shows the temporary terminal arrangements, and the earth cable installed to protect the work site on the section insulator and earth stake alongside the pole. Tram 33 has the Eureka roofing tiles and SEC Briquettes roof advertisements and Twin Lakes sign on the drivers dash panel. The destination shown is Gardens via Sturt St. West. Also gives charges for Scholar's Monthly tickets, Luggage, Parcels, Newspapers and Chartered trams. Fares in shillings and pence and decimal currency.
