RAEME Corps was first established in 1942 when the Ordnance Corps and the Service Corps were combined. The royal ascent was granted in 1948. The Royal Australian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (RAEME) is a technical corps tasked with the maintenance of the Army's modern hardware and equipment. RAEME personnel are represented in most Army units. The Royal Australian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers corps motto is ‘Arte et Marte’, which is Latin for ‘With Skill and Fighting’. On the 5th March 1959, His Royal Highness, The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, accepted the appointment of Colonel-in-Chief of the Corps of the Royal Australian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. These letters and notices from 1935 relate to Legacy establishing a Fund to help with Victorian children that are not eligible for the benefits of the Repatriation Department, the RSS. Children's Scholarship Fund and other established funds. The primary policy of the Trust is to provide 'educational assistance for the children of deceased soldiers by way of tuition fees, trailing expenses, cost of books, equipment and/or contributions towards the maintenance of the beneficiaries during the period of training.' Documents include a memo being sent to all Legatees explaining the fund and asking for ideas on how to raise the money and introductions to possible donors. Also a letter to the minister explaining the scheme. It seems if the death of the father was not ruled as 'due to war causes' the child was not eligible for Repatriation educational benefits. Whereas Legacy does not draw a distinction in relation to the cause or time of death of the father. Legacy had been working with the 'Carry On' Club and spent several hundreds of dollars for these children. The 'Carry On' Club was changing its focus to living war veterans. A memo dated 5th December 1935 says there was a delay in passing the 'Enabling Bill' through Parliament. Further outcome is not known. The notation H13 in red pen shows that it was part of the archive project that was trying to capture the history of Legacy. A record of Legacy pursuing means of providing funds for the education of the children on their books. Bert Pollard was an active RSL Member involved in Committee and the District Board. Gwen Horman was a prominent figure in Ringwood History. Her husband , Robert, was the Mayor of the Ringwood Borough in 1954 and again in 1961 and played a large part in the move for Ringwood to become a city. Gwen was a foundation member and President of the Ringwood East Infant Welfare Centre, helped fund raise for the Maroondah Hospital and was a founding member of the Ringwood East CWA in 1949. She traveled extensively and there are many diary notes of these trips included in the history.Transparent front cover and buff coloured back cover, black spiral binding contains 38 pages of printed notes and photos, some hand written amendments. Jane Graham Austin purchased Allotment 14, Section 1, Township of Linton in 1871. This property, a house and shop in Sussex Street next to the Shire Hall, had formerly been owned by her father, Thomas Austin, who was forced to sell it after being declared insolvent. Jane Austin mortgaged the property for £20 in 1878. When Thomas Austin left Linton in 1882, his daughter sold the property to Benjamin Dodd, who in turn sold it in 1887 to John Angus.Approximately A3-size sheet of blue paper which has been folded twice. Printed and handwritten documentation of the 'Equitable Mortgage' arrangement entered into by Jane Graham Austin with the Bank of New South Wales in December 1878. The release of the mortgage, in October 1882, is also documented. Bob (Herman) Hymans (a former member of the Royal Netherlands Navy) was born in Bloemendaal, Holland on 30th September 1922. During World War II he fought against the Japanese in the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia) and was imprisoned in Changi and on the Burma Railway. After gaining qualifications as a Ski Instructor, Bob arrived in Falls Creek in July 1950. Working as an Instructor and Supervisor at Bogong Lodge, Bob decided his future was in accommodation. He was successful in negotiating an indenture for land from the State Electricity Commission (SEC). It took Bob two years to build his Grand Coeur Chalet but, tragically, it was burned down in August 1961. Bob also built the first Chairlift in Australia. This was a single chairlift and the structure was built from wooden electricity poles. He was constantly full of new ideas and proposals for the village. Bob Hymans died on 7th July 2007. This Collection of documents and letters tells the story of Bob's endeavours to develop Falls Creek into the ski village it is today.This item is significant because it documents actions taken by the Falls Creek Tourist Area Management Committee in their role overseeing the Tourist Area.This letter accompanied a policy for Public Risk Insurance with the Insurance Company of North America. The policy had been increased to cover a further £10,000. However the Management Committee felt this may need to be increased by an additional £10,000 if Mr Hymans was to go ahead with further development of Site 4A. Established in 1971, the Land Conservation Council operated under the Land Conservation Council Act 1970. In July 1997, the Environment Conservation Council Act 1997 came into operation. This Act revoked the Land Conservation Council Act 1970 and abolished the Land Conservation Council. An Environment Conservation Council was established in its place. (ref. Charles Henry [Carl] Grove died on 17/4/1938 at Box Hill at the age of 88 and was buried in Orbost. Prior to coming to the Snowy River district, Carl worked as overseer on Buchan Station. In 1880, he selected land at Newmerella after first coming here in 1874 with early selector James A Robertson. He married Annie Robertson in 1876. Carl was a farmer, hop and seed grower and nurseryman. He was an elected Councillor of the newly formed Tambo Shire in 1882, and then in 1892 to the Orbost Shire where he served for many years filling varioius public roles. In 1911, he shifted to Queensland, but later returned to Victoria and died at Box Hill. (Ref. Nov 2014 Newsletter) Carl Grove was a prominent Orbost early settler.
