Functional object - BOTTLES COLLECTION: HARPER & CLIMAS
Harper & Climas Bottle. Clear glass bottle with neck broken off and missing. Base is 8 cm in diameter. Height is 23 cm. A large amount of writing is moulded into the bottle along with a pictorial representation of a poppet head. The word ''Registered '' is superimposed on the poppet head. Written vertically on either side of the poppet head are the words ''HARPER CLIMAS'' and across the top and below the poppet head are the words ''This bottle is the property of the ALPINE BREWING & CORDIAL COMPANY BENDIGO. Document - GOVERNOR'S RECEPTION 1861
Victorian Governor, Sir Henry Barkly visited Bendigo in Oct. 1861 as part of his regional tour that included, Castlemaine, Chewton, Back Creek and Inglewood.Buff coloured document. Written on top 'The Governor's Reception by the Loyal Citizens of the Town of Sandhurst on Thursday October 10th 1861. The program for the day is detailed, with instructions as to the order that participants should muster before the greeting of the Governor at the City Boundary at Kangaroo Flat. Photograph - Burnie Tram
The Birney tram was named after its designer Charles Birney and was designated a "safety car". It was a type G tram that had a smaller wheel base and was designed specifically for routes with lighter traffic as it could only carry 50 passengers. It featured folding doors and steps and was the first tram that could be operated by the driver alone without a conductor. This particular tram was built in 1925 by the J G Brill Company in Philadelphia, USA. It was flat-packed to Adelaide where it was reassembled. It operator in Adelaide until 1935 when it was sold to Geelong before again being sold to the Bendigo Tramways in 1947. It continued to operate until the tramways closure in 1972. William Morley Johnson established a stock and general auctioneers business in Kyneton in 1886 before opening a furniture store in Bendigo in 1897. The initial business operated from Pall Mall opposite the Post Office and then moved to 23 Mitchell Street in 1898. In 1906 the business moved to Sydney.
