Administrative record - Factory Order Book
The item is a soft cover book recording work of T.J. Connolly, Ironmongers, Sandhurst. Each handwritten page records the month and year at the top of the page and then lists dates, quantities, customer name and item details. Some customers names include location of customer. The soft cardboard cover is green with red and brown marbling on both front and back with some wearing at the corners and fading at the spine. "Factory Order Book" and decorative swirls are hand drawn in black on the front cover. The dates are stamped on the cover also. The pages are bound together with string. The book includes the date range of November 1895 to October 1896. All pages have been used. This item is part of the Margaret Roberts Collection. Sample, Card Clothing
Card clothing sample manufactured by Samuel Law and Sons, Cleckheaton and probably sent to the Collins Bros Mill at the same time as W621. Card clothing is defined as 'the leather or other stiff material which holds the wire staples, the points of which project outwardly and form the carding teeth which operated on the fibres.' This fits into a carding machine ("The Textile Industries" vol. 8 - William S. Murphy, 1911).Card clothing sample, comprising rows of bent wires mounted on a thick rectangular leather base. Report, Department of Defence Woollen Cloth Factore
Photocopy of the original board report for the Woollen Cloth Factory (later Federal Woollen Mills and Classweave) in North Geelong. Original document dates from February 14, 1917. Unclear what year this photocopy is from. Item was discovered onsite when Classweave Industries closed down in 2001. Watermark across the pages of the report read PROVISION OF A COPY OF THIS RECORD HELD BY THE AUSTRALIAN ARCHIVES DOES NOT AUTHORISE ITS PUBLICATION OR REPRODUCTION. Report signed at final page by James Smail, manager.Pale yellow paper document with black text. 6 pages, stapled together at top left corner. Text describes the Woollen Cloth Factory site and its creation, as well as staff numbers, wages and expenditure. Report is signed by site manager James Smail. Cloth, Anderson Tartan Warrnambool & District Pipes & Drums, late 20th century -1974
This is a sample of the material used for the kilts of the members of the Warrnambool and District Pipes and Drums. It was provided by Fletcher Jones and Staff Factory in Warrnambool. Warrnambool and District Pipes and Drums was originally founded as the Warrnambool Pipe Band in 1906 with the objective of popularizing Scottish music. Later this objective was altered to include the fostering of bagpipe music. The band’s tartan was firstly the Gordon tartan then the Cameron of Erracht tartan and today it is the Anderson tartan. Since its formation the group has won many State Titles and has performed well also at national competitions including winning the Grade 2 Australian Championship in 1992. This material is of interest as a sample of the material used for the kilts of the members of the Warrnambool and District Pipes and Drums, an important and long-established band in Warrnambool.This is a sample piece of tartan cloth of the Anderson Clan. The material was provided by the Fletcher Jones and Staff Factory in Warrnambool and used to make the kilts for the members of the Warrnambool and District Pipes and Drums.
